Children proudly display their work on the walls and celebrate their achievements.  The childminder manages children's behaviour exceptionally well. She is an excellent role model and teaches them to be well mannered, polite and respectful. Children are very kind to each other and show extra care around babies.  The childminder has developed effective relationships with other settings children attend, such as school. She shares detailed information about children's development with them and works in partnership with teachers to complement learning.

 Children have secure bonds with the childminder. She collects a wealth of information about their care needs and routines, which helps her to get to know them quickly. Babies are very settled and children demonstrate that they feel safe in her care.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not use key opportunities to reaffirm children's existing understanding of hazards, risk and the consequences of danger in the environment.  The arrangements for monitoring and reflecting on the overall quality of the provision do not currently include the views of children and other professionals.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 enhance children's existing understanding and awareness of safety, risk and consequences  continue to extend the ways to gather reflective feedback from children and other professionals in order to drive continual improvements in the pursuit towards excellence.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder is ambitious and dedicated. She has high expectations of her practice and drives towards excellence. Parents have left positive feedback, such as, 'This childminder goes the extra mile and has helped my child develop her confidence'. The childminder regularly monitors the progress children make. She identifies areas where they need support and focuses her teaching to close any gaps in their learning. The qualified childminder uses her skills exceptionally well to promote the best outcomes for children. For example, she uses her teaching assistant experience to help prepare children for school. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is confident to identify vulnerable families and knows how to report concerns about children's welfare swiftly. She completes risk assessments to monitor areas used by children. This helps to keep them safe.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder plans fun, exciting activities which help children to make good progress. For example, children listen intently to a story and are excited to join in using the props. The childminder extends their learning and challenges them to try basic addition and counting in sequence. Children develop good mathematical skills and can count correctly past ten. The childminder supports babies to develop their communication skills. She talks to them clearly and includes them in all experiences. The childminder uses detailed observations of children's learning to regularly contribute to precise assessments. She gathers information from parents and other settings to find out what children already know when they first start. This helps her to plan the next steps for their development. Parents, carers and teachers are extremely pleased with the way the childminder involves them in children's learning. This helps families to feel valued and promotes continuity.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is an excellent role model for children. She uses an effective amount of specific praise to help babies and children understand the things they have done well. This helps them to keep trying to develop their skills and has a positive impact on their emotional well-being. Children show high levels of confidence and self-esteem. The childminder supports their understanding well of how to be healthy and, mostly, their understanding of safety. For example, children thoroughly enjoy cracking eggs and stirring their mixture to make their own pancakes. They show increasing ability to chop their own fruit and use the knives safely. The childminder uses this opportunity to check children's knowledge of healthy and unhealthy toppings. Children develop physical skills outdoors and enjoy the fresh air as they explore the resources in the garden. The childminder helps children to develop an awareness of the differences and similarities between themselves
