children and young people since the most recent full inspection

This home was judged outstanding at the full inspection. At this interim inspection, Ofsted judges that it has improved effectiveness . The staff continue to offer very high standards of care at this home. The young people living at the home continue to make excellent progress and achieve very good outcomes. They also have excellent relationships with the staff. Since the previous inspection, one young person has left the home and there have been no admissions. The young person who has left has moved to independence in a planned way and this move has been very successful. They continue to visit regularly and keep in close contact with the staff. They work full time in the career of their choice and continue to have an active and positive life outside of work. The other young people continue to thrive. Attendance at school is good and the young people make good progress in their personal lives. The staff provide a very

nurturing environment and offer particularly good, in-depth, personalised care to all of the young people. This care is characterised by excellent attention to detail, meeting all needs well. The young people make good progress with their emotional difficulties and clearly build confidence and self-esteem over time. The young people are supported to improve family contact where possible and are encouraged to lead active and fulfilling lives in their leisure time. There have been some safeguarding concerns around some of the young people when they are away from the home. Some of the young people have been mixing with a group of other local young people, about whom there are concerns of inappropriate sexual behaviour and drug taking. Staff have worked hard to ensure that the young people from the home have been protected and that no harm has come to them. The staff have been particularly vigilant and have put in great

efforts to talk to and to educate the young people about potential risks. The staff have also referred several of the young people for external support with specialist workers and this has been productive. In addition, the registered manager has taken a clear lead in both contacting and challenging other professionals. This has ensured that appropriate action has been taken at an early stage to avoid the situation becoming more serious. This is outstanding leadership in action. No requirements or recommendations were made at the last inspection and none have been made at this inspection.

What the inspection judgements mean

At the interim inspection we make a judgement on whether the home has improved in effectiveness, sustained effectiveness, or declined in effectiveness since the previous full inspection. This is in line with the ‘Inspection of children’s homes: framework for inspection’.

Information about this inspection

Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people living in the children’s home. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the difference that adults make to the lives of children and young people. They read case files, watched how professional staff work with children, young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care given to children and young people. Wherever possible, they talked to children, young people and their families. In addition, the inspectors have tried to understand what the children’s home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people who it is trying to help, protect and look after. This inspection focused on the effectiveness of the home and the progress and experiences of children and young people since the most recent full inspection.
