Outcomes for children Requires improvement
p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The quality of teaching is not consistent. The childminder misses some opportunities to extend children's learning, and children are not always suitably challenged to help them make good progress. The childminder has made some well-considered improvements to some aspects of her setting but has failed to fully evaluate the quality of teaching.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder has developed an attractive and interesting environment where children are happy to play and explore. Children behave well and develop positive social skills. Children have strong relationships with the childminder and their care needs are met well. The childminder works well with parents and other professionals. She shares information well and provides a good platform for discussion and a consistent understanding of children's care needs.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with children. The inspector looked at documentation, including the safeguarding policy. The inspector conducted a leadership and management discussion and a joint observation with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder understands the procedures to follow if she is concerned about a child's well-being. She has had training to support her practice. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has identified aspects of the setting to improve and has made some effective changes which benefit children. For example, she has organised her resources effectively so that they can be easily accessed and children have a wide range to choose from. The childminder has not, however, made changes to address all areas and some weaknesses remain, particularly in the quality of teaching. The childminder does not prioritise her own professional development and this does not help to raise the quality of teaching to a consistently good standard across all areas of learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder makes some useful observations and assessments of children's achievements and plans activities with their stage of development in mind. However, the quality of her interactions and teaching is inconsistent and does not always support children to make good progress. Children enjoy exploring with play dough. They use a range of interesting cutters and shapes and think about the things they might make. Children build a train track and work well independently to find the pieces they need. Children get involved in role-play games. They dress up and pretend to cook, having lots of fun together. The childminder has positive relationships with parents and shares information effectively. This helps children feel valued and included in the setting.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides an environment that supports children's need to explore and become engaged in their own activities. There are opportunities for children to make decisions about what they would like to play with and where they would like to play. For example, children choose to play with a train track and understand where to find the things they need. This helps to develop their independence. Children go on lots of interesting outdoor visits and particularly enjoy splashing in puddles and exploring a local woodland and stream area. They get plenty of fresh air and exercise. Children behave well and develop positive social skills. For example, they sit at the table nicely for a snack and always say 'please' and 'thank you'.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Children are not consistently fully challenged or particularly motivated by the activities on offer. However, overall, children develop positive social skills in readiness for school. Children play in a settled and happy way. They are kind and respectful towards each other and build lovely friendships.
