This provision is good
The childminder has realistic expectations of what children can achieve and provides enjoyable, challenging experiences for them. Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. The childminder supports children's communication and language skills effectively. She talks and listens to children, using clear language. For example, she repeats key words and uses books and songs to support children's confidence and skill in this area. Children behave well. They respond well to the childminder's requests and clear explanations. The childminder is experienced and has clear expectations of herself and the children. She uses training to improve her provision. For example, a course on observation and assessment has helped her improve learning outcomes for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently make the best use of opportunities to fully involve parents in their children's learning. Children do not benefit from many opportunities to explore a wide range of media and materials using their senses.

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with the children. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including policies and procedures, and children's records. The inspector conducted a tour of the premises that the childminder uses for childminding purposes.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is aware of the action to take should she have any concerns about the welfare of a child in her care. She completes risk assessments for all areas of the home and places of interest they visit, to help children play in a safe environment. Parents comment positively about the childminder's provision. The childminder monitors and assesses children's learning effectively. She completes regular observations of children's achievements and interests, and uses the information to identify any gaps in their learning. The childminder evaluates the quality of her work and considers ways to make improvements to have a positive impact on improving children's outcomes for their future.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides children with ample opportunities to develop an understanding of how to use simple technology. For example, children know how to press and pull things to make toys work. The childminder supports children's personal and social development well. She takes children to local playgroups where they learn to mix with other children, share and take turns. Children develop a love of books and reading. For instance, they have access to a well-resourced book box, which they access independently. Children enjoy a good level of challenge that is appropriate to their age and stage of development. Younger children enjoy playing with cars and lay on the floor to manoeuvre them around and mimic car sounds.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a welcoming environment where children enjoy learning and feel emotionally settled. She organises the resources effectively and children receive ample support to become independent and to make choices about their play. The childminder is skilled at helping children to learn about healthy lifestyles. For example, children have access to a 'growing cart' in the garden to plant, tend and harvest blueberries and carrots. The childminder also provides freshly prepared and nutritious meals and snacks. Children understand how to keep themselves safe. For instance, they regularly take part in emergency evacuation drills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy exploring and learning independently. Young children demonstrate an interest in reading and writing. For example, they use a range of materials to draw and enjoy looking at books. Children develop good social skills and an ability to develop relationships with others. They practise personal care skills, such as cutting up their fruit at snack time and washing their hands before meals. Children gain the key skills needed to help them move on to school.
