p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Since the last inspection, the registered manager has left the home and a new manager is in post. This change has not affected the quality of care provided by staff. As a result, the young person has continued to make good progress in respect of her educational, emotional and social development.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Staff encouragement and praise has supported the young person to continue to make excellent academic progress in school. The young person is now being supported to re-integrate back into a mainstream school, which is a fantastic achievement considering the young person’s starting point.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Staff have worked hard to build the young person’s confidence and self-esteem. This has included supporting the young person to take part in new activities such as going to the gym and joining a cheerleading club. Consequently, the young person is more confident to socialise with friends, more able to regulate her emotions and she presents as happier in herself.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Staff are alert to the young person’s potential vulnerability to child sexual exploitation but balance this with the need to provide the young person with the opportunity to make safe choices for herself. Staff use key work discussions and informal conversations to provide the young person with the skills and knowledge to make safe choices while ensuring that appropriate monitoring and supervision is in place to keep her safe. This means that the young person has successfully been able to have increased free time in the community, as well as being trusted to have a mobile phone and access to the internet.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Staff continue to work collaboratively with partner agencies including the police, school and placing authority. Staff have started to develop links with health charities. This is enabling staff to develop their skills and knowledge in the most effective way to respond to the young person’s emotional health needs.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

The new manager presents as passionate, motivated and child-focused in his approach. The manager is effective at using monitoring systems to identify the extent to which the young person is making progress and how effective the staff invention is in supporting this progress.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

At the interim inspection we make a judgement on whether the home has improved in effectiveness, sustained effectiveness, or declined in effectiveness since the previous full inspection. This is in line with the ‘Inspection of children's homes: framework for inspection’.

Information about this inspection

Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people living in the children's home. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the difference that adults make to the lives of children and young people. They read case files, watched how professional staff work with children, young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care given to children and young people. Wherever possible, they talked to children, young people and their families. In addition the inspectors have tried to understand what the children's home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people who it is trying to help, protect and look after. This inspection focused on the effectiveness of the home and the progress and experiences of children and young people since the most recent full inspection.
