The childminder shows determination and enthusiasm in her role and provides a good service. She keeps up to date with early years requirements. For instance, she shares good practice with local childminders and refers to useful websites. The childminder works effectively with her assistant in planning activities and reviewing practice. Since the last inspection, opportunities for children to learn independently have improved. There are plans to further develop outdoor learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of child protection procedures. She knows the action to take should she ever have concerns about a child's welfare. Feedback from parents indicates that they are very pleased with the provision and the progress their children make.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder makes careful observations to assess the skills of each child. She uses these to provide interesting activities which meet the interests and needs of different children. Good emphasis is placed on developing children's language and literacy skills. For example, the childminder reads stories with expression and continually models new words. Children have numerous opportunities to practise early drawing and writing skills. The childminder successfully develops children's counting skills and understanding of shapes as they participate in activities. Children's learning is enhanced by visits to other settings and to interesting places such as the park, the play gym and a farm.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder's home provides a warm and stimulating environment. The childminder is a good role model for children. For instance, she uses and demonstrates good manners. Children are happy and very comfortable in the childminder's care. Children form a strong rapport with the childminder and other children. They make good progress in learning to share and taking turns. Children grow in confidence and self-esteem. They show increasing independence; for example, when choosing from healthy foods and when brushing their teeth after food.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. Some make rapid progress in language development. For instance, they listen attentively to stories, begin to sing nursery rhymes and acquire and use new words. Children try new things on their own and are confident to ask the childminder for help. They demonstrate increasing coordination and control when handling toys, tools and writing implements. Children apply their knowledge of counting and common shapes well in different activities. They are well prepared for the next stages of their learning.
