This provision is good
The quality of teaching is good. The childminder is skilled at following young children's lead and enhancing their play. She uses their areas of interest to engage and interact with them. This helps them to persevere at new activities and develop concentration. Children are very happy, confident and settled. Their individual needs are met well by the competent and caring childminder. This means that children's personal, social and emotional well-being are successfully promoted. The childminder provides children with nutritious meals, snacks and drinks and makes full use of opportunities to develop children's understanding of healthy lifestyles. Partnerships with parents are strong. The childminder keeps parents regularly informed of children's progress through daily discussions and sharing children's learning journals. This helps parents to know what their child is working on and how to support their

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through discussion and the written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Children's welfare is addressed well. The childminder is aware of the local safeguarding procedures and her responsibilities to protect children from abuse and neglect. The childminder completes daily risk assessments to identify and minimise risks to children. Record keeping is well organised and a detailed range of policies and procedures underpins the efficient management of the provision. This is shared with parents so they are fully informed about the setting. The childminder evaluates all areas of her provision. She uses her findings to identify ways to build on her practice and to help improve outcomes for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and develop. She uses observations and assessments effectively to plan a wide range of play experiences. Children's literacy skills are promoted well. For example, children enjoy listening to stories and repeating known phrases. The childminder carefully follows children's lead and skilfully supports their interests. For example, children delight in adding ingredients to a 'cauldron' to make 'potions' and exploring the sensory properties using their hands and feet. Children enjoy activities that help to develop their imaginations, such as carefully placing toys into the dolls' house and making pretend food for the childminder. The childminder successfully promotes children's language and communication skills. Children engage in a range of opportunities which helps them develop an understanding of the wider world. This helps them to build an awareness of other people and to celebrate their
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The caring childminder is highly attentive to children's individual needs. The environment is welcoming, homely and stimulating. Children make decisions about their own play. They are self-assured and independent. The childminder encourages and supports children to do things for themselves. For example, children tidy away toys and pour their own drinks at snack time. Children learn about good hygiene routines. The childminder supports children to develop an understanding of what contributes to a healthy lifestyle. For example, she provides healthy and nutritious snacks and meals and uses local facilities, such as the park, to help children develop physical skills and benefit from fresh air. Good behaviour is valued and encouraged by the childminder. Children respond well to praise and encouragement. They use good manners and are learning how to respect their toys and equipment.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They are motivated to learn new things and successfully make choices and decisions about their day. They are good communicators with strong social skills. Children are well prepared for the next stages in their learning and their eventual move to school.
