This provision is good

 The childminder plans and provides a wide range of interesting activities and learning experiences that supports children well to make good progress.  The childminder works well with other childminders and pre-schools that children attend. She shares summaries of children's learning and gives regular updates of progress to ensure continuity in children's care and experiences.  Self-evaluation is effective. The childminder reflects well on her provision, to help her identify areas for improvement. For example, she has improved partnership working with other settings and provides more opportunities for children's sensory play.  The childminder has a kind and caring approach. She shares warm, close relationships with the children, who feel safe and emotionally secure in her care.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder misses opportunities to help children who learn best outside to become more familiar with words and numbers.  Although, the childminder regularly shares information with parents about their children's progress and the activities they have enjoyed when with her, she does not consistently gain information from all parents about their children's ongoing learning at home, to help her more with the planning of activities.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide even more opportunities for children who learn better outside to become familiar with words and numbers  encourage all parents to consistently share ongoing information about what their children learn at home, to extend the planning of activities further.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's records and the childminder's policies.  The inspector and childminder observed children during activities and completed a follow-up discussion about children's learning and progress.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector took account of parents' views from their written comments.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder updates her safeguarding knowledge regularly and knows what to do if she has any concerns about a child in her care. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder monitors and tracks children's progress successfully. She identifies any gaps in children's learning promptly and plans focused activities to close these. The childminder effectively shares ideas and good practice with other childminders and attends training to develop her knowledge and skills. This has helped her to provide new activities that have had a positive impact on children's speech and communication.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder understands how children learn and develop, and makes learning fun. She supports children's communication and language skills effectively. For example, she spontaneously sings songs, and repeats babbles and sounds with young children as they play. She provides a good range of resources and materials that encourages children to explore and investigate. For example, children enjoy the feel of paint on their bodies as they use tools, such as small-wheeled vehicles, sponges and brushes, to make patterns and investigate new experiences. The childminder challenges children well. For example, babies quickly work out where to place a ball so that it goes down the slide.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment where children are happy and settled. Children have regular opportunities to benefit from fresh air and develop their physical skills. For example, they visit the local park with the childminder, where they climb and learn to balance on the equipment. The childminder teaches children well about the importance of a healthy lifestyle, so they learn to follow good hygiene procedures and enjoy eating healthy foods. The childminder gives children lots of praise and encouragement, which effectively boosts their self-esteem and confidence. Children's behaviour is good.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children gain a good range of skills, which prepares them well for the next stage of their development and moving on to school. Children are inquisitive and learn well through exploration, solving problems for themselves. For example, babies know what to do to find toys that the childminder hides. Children develop good concentration skills and focus well in their play. Indoors, older children have opportunities to learn to count, recognise numerals and practise their early writing skills.
