This provision is good
The childminder provides a welcoming environment for children and parents. She takes time to share information with parents each day, which supports them well to continue children's learning at home. The childminder supports children's language development well. For example, using pictures, she teaches children the names of fruits and engages children well in discussion. She extends the learning further, so children get to taste the fruit at snack time. Children are happy and settled. The childminder carefully supports their emotional well- being. She takes account of information from home, such as babies' sleep needs, when planning the day, to ensure children are comfortable and ready to learn. The childminder follows rigorous risk assessments for outings. For example, she visits new venues to assess their suitability and safety before visiting them with children. Children are confident. For example, older children readily introduce themselves and

talk eagerly about their activities, such as making pancakes.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not adapt activities effectively enough to ensure they consistently take account of the babies' and toddlers' needs, to provide them with appropriate challenge. The childminder misses opportunities to help younger children to develop their understanding of the relationships they have with people who are familiar to them.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

use planning more effectively so that activities consistently challenge and meet the learning needs of babies and toddlers help younger children to develop an understanding of the relationships they have with people who are familiar to them.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder's care and teaching practices. The inspector held discussions with the childminder. The inspector spoke with children and sought their views. The inspector viewed a range of documents and took account of feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is clear about the need to act promptly and knows the signs and procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder uses secure online software to work closely with parents to share information confidentially about their children. The childminder regularly attends training to further her teaching skills. This has helped her increase the support to help younger children learn about numbers through counting and matching activities. The childminder uses self- evaluation well to improve her practices. For example, she has found that since improving how she shares information with parents about their children's progress, parents play a more active role in continuing the activities and learning at home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports older children well to take responsibility. For example, they independently collect plates from the cupboard and set the table for snack time. The childminder continuously reviews children's progress, which she shares with parents and takes account of their views, to address gaps in children's learning. For example, she plans experiences that build younger children's confidence to visit new places. The childminder supports children's mathematical learning well. For example, she knows that younger children recite numbers before they understand their meaning and plans activities to develop this well. For example, children learn to count and group toy animals to extend their number knowledge further.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a safe and hygienic environment for the children to explore and play freely. Children easily access a wide range of resources to encourage them to make choices about their play and develop their independence from an early age. The childminder supports children well from a young age to learn to share, take turns and show respect and consideration for others. Children develop good relationships with others. The childminder provides sensitive care to help babies feel confident to begin to explore the resources and environment as their mobility increases. She provides activities that are safe and encourage them to investigate using their senses.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident learners and enjoy engaging in activities with others. Children make good progress, especially socially. Children learn to take responsibility for their needs and are helpful. Babies begin to explore using their senses. Children are confident communicators and share their thoughts and ideas from a young age. Children begin to make marks, for example, during the coloured rice activity, where they explore texture, shape and quantity.
