Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder and her assistant. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including the Disclosure and Barring Service checks for the childminder, assistants and people in the household over 16 years. She also looked at a selection of policies and procedures, including the safeguarding policy. The inspector talked to the childminder, her assistants and the children throughout the inspection. She discussed assessment, planning and how children are supported to make progress in their learning and development. The inspector spoke to a selection of parents during the inspection and read some written testimonials from other parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistants have an extremely confident and robust understanding of child protection issues. They know the procedures to follow should they be concerned about the welfare and safety of children. The childminder prioritises children's safety and regularly completes highly comprehensive risk assessments. She rigorously checks and reviews all aspects of safety. For example, all visitors are asked to sign in and out and to place their mobile telephones in a secure cabinet. The childminder has extremely high expectations for delivering a high- quality service. She discusses how she intends to continue to look for ways to improve, including the completion of selected training. The childminder provides her assistants with regular supervision and focused safeguarding meetings to help ensure that their practice is of the highest quality.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
Teaching is dynamic, inspiring and challenging. The childminder follows children's interests and gives them time to explore and lead their own play. For example, children ask to play with the water. They have great fun as they turn the tap on, fill the jugs and then confidently pour it into the container. As they fill their jugs the childminder and her assistant ask excellent questions to encourage children to think for themselves. This significantly encourages children to develop sustained levels of interest and concentration. Children are engaged in meaningful discussions that encourage them to describe what they are building with the bricks. They use their imagination well, explaining that it is a farm. The excellent observation and tracking of children's progress contribute extremely well to the accurate assessment of their individual learning and development. The tailored activities and teaching make a significant contribution to the rapid progress children make.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder is highly responsive to children's changing needs and emotional state. Both the childminder's and her assistant's sensitive and calm approach to younger children supports them in developing a very strong sense of emotional security. This provides children with a safe base from which they can explore and begin to understand the world around them. The childminder is highly effective in helping children to feel confident and self-assured. She encourages children's independence from an extremely early age. For example, children confidently set the table at lunch time. Children have excellent opportunities to learn about a healthy lifestyle and to develop their physical skills in the very well-resourced garden. For example, in the garden, children grow their own apples and herbs. They pick these and use them in meals that they help to prepare.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
All children make consistent and sustained progress and any gaps in their learning are closing rapidly. They are extremely motivated, eager learners who contribute their own ideas to their learning. The fun learning experiences provide children with an excellent foundation for their move on to school. Exceptional intervention is sought for children who are funded, so that they get the highest level of support for their individual needs.
