This provision is good
The childminder provides a safe, welcoming environment where children are sensitively cared for and feel secure. Children build warm, trusting relationships. Children's communication and mathematical development are supported well. For example, the childminder introduces new words and numbers during activities, to build on children's vocabulary. The childminder checks children's development effectively, which helps her to identify and address any gaps in their learning. Children make good progress in their learning. Children enjoy regular outings to the childminder's allotment. They get actively involved in planting and growing vegetables, helping them to learn where their food comes from. The childminder links with other early years settings that children attend to help her to provide continuity for children's care and learning. The childminder continues to review and evaluate her provision to help identify areas

for improvement, benefiting the children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder does not make the best use of chances to allow children to explore and use creative materials, to enable them to follow their interests. The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to involve parents and encourage them to share how they support their children's learning at home.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and interaction between the childminder and the children, and looked at the play equipment and resources. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection, including discussing the impact of teaching after viewing activities. The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding and talked to the children at appropriate times. The inspector looked at documentation, including a sample of children's records and assessments. The inspector discussed how the childminder evaluates her provision and read comments from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows about child protection issues and the procedures to follow if she has any concerns. She supervises children well, teaching them how to keep themselves safe, such as to keep still when sitting on their chairs. Activities are challenging and stimulating, and are planned around the children's individual learning priorities. The childminder observes and assesses children's achievements effectively. Parents can access the information to keep them well informed about their children's achievements. The childminder keeps up to date of any changes, such as by attending meetings about early years practice. She identifies ways to develop her provision further. For example, she has re-organised resources to create more space for children to play and explore.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding about how children learn and develop. She offers a wide variety of interesting activities and play experiences that motivate children to learn as they play. For example, children have fun rolling and throwing items into the various shapes on the floor. The childminder encourages them to look around the room to find objects that are 'square' and 'triangle' shapes. She extends the older children's learning further. For example, as they draw their circle shapes she gets them to work out which is the 'biggest' and 'smallest' circle, helping to develop their understanding of size and shape. Children are confident to talk to adults. The childminder continually talks to children and asks questions, for example, to extend their thinking skills further.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and settled. The childminder supports their individual needs well. For example, she knows when younger children are getting tired and offers cuddles so they feel comfortable and secure. Children build strong attachments with the childminder, who supports their emotional development effectively. Children demonstrate friendly behaviour towards each other as they play. For example, they enjoy investigating the musical instruments and understand that they need to share with others. The childminder develops children's understanding of diversity through a range of resources and activities, to help teach them about people in the wider world.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and keen to learn. For example, they show good independence in their self-care skills as they wash their hands before they eat and pour their own drinks. Younger children are encouraged to learn to feed themselves, closely supervised by the childminder. Children learn about mathematics, early writing and develop speaking skills that help them prepare well for the next stage in their learning, and for starting school.
