This provision is good
Since the last inspection, the childminder has worked hard to raise the quality of her teaching and assessment to a good standard. She now involves parents in the initial assessments of their children to ensure these are precise and clearly identify children's learning needs right from the start. Children have developed secure bonds with the childminder. She has a strong focus on helping them to develop their personal, social and emotional skills. Children show emerging confidence in new social situations and are very happy at the setting. The quality of teaching is good. The experienced and well-qualified childminder is calm and attentive to children. She has a good understanding of how children play and learn. All children make good progress in their learning and development. Children behave very well in relation to their age and stage of development. The childminder gently supports them in learning what is acceptable and what is not.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder has started to develop the new outdoor play space, currently children who prefer to play and learn outdoors are not given enough opportunities to explore, investigate, build, move and role play. The childminder does not always make the most of her good partnerships with parents to encourage them to participate fully in the evaluation of the setting.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of up-to-date child protection issues and is clear about her responsibility to keep children safe. She knows exactly what to do if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder supervises children appropriately to keep them safe. Children take part in regular fire drills and learn about road safety when out and about in the community. This helps to develop their awareness of how to keep themselves safe. The childminder has started to reflect on her practice to improve the outcomes for children. Record keeping is well organised and a detailed range of policies and procedures underpins the safe and efficient management of the provision. These are shared with parents so they are fully informed about the setting.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder offers a good range of flexible, planned activities based on children's interests. She uses information from her own assessments of children's development to plan activities that support what they need to learn next to progress. Children's communication and language skills are promoted well. The childminder helps young children to talk and she uses repetition to support their pronunciation of new words. She is playful as she joins activities and successfully encourages children to solve problems as they play a matching game or complete jigsaw puzzles. The childminder provides detailed information to parents about children's ongoing achievements.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children and toddlers are happy and demonstrate that they are very fond of the childminder. The childminder ensures that children understand the importance of safe and healthy lifestyles. For example, she encourages parents to bring healthy lunches and helps the youngest children to clean their hands before they eat and to understand why this is important. Good routines for handwashing are followed and children soon learn the importance of these. The childminder recognises when younger children are tired and responds quickly to their needs; they are soon asleep with their comforter. The childminder uses local facilities, such as the park, to help children develop physical skills and benefit from fresh air. She regularly praises children for their efforts. The childminder manages their behaviour positively and models good manners consistently. Children show that they feel safe with her and begin to develop self-confidence and independence.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress across all areas of learning. They are working within the stages typically expected for their age. The childminder understands how to support older children to be prepared for their eventual move on to school. She uses a range of opportunities to help children develop an understanding of the wider world. This helps them to build an awareness of other people and to celebrate their differences. Children concentrate and use their imagination as they play games. They use props imaginatively as they care for the dolls and pretend to cook meals for them.
