p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibilities to protect children from abuse and neglect. She makes good use of training to ensure her knowledge and understanding of child protection is up to date. She is vigilant and makes sure that her home and garden are safe for children to play in. The childminder has a strong drive to improve. She makes good use of support from other childminders and early years to develop her provision. This has, for example, helped her to develop more rigorous procedures for assessing children's learning and development. The childminder works well with other settings children attend to support continuity in their learning and development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder helps children to settle quickly into positive routines that help them feel secure and confident. She works closely with parents to accurately assess children's starting points and plan for their future learning. The childminder helps children follow their interests and play with toys and resources that capture their imagination. For example, she helps children develop their language skills through involving them in games and stories based on their interest and appreciation of nocturnal animals. The childminder helps children to make decisions and be confident in their choices. For example, resources are organised well so that children find it easy to access them and choose what to play with next. The childminder helps children to think critically about their learning and try hard. For example, she asks skilful questions to help them decide on the best things to buy in their shopping game.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children build a strong relationship with the childminder and welcome her companionship. They are polite towards each other and consider the needs of others. They behave well and are helped to consider the consequences of their actions on others. The childminder helps children to manage their emotional development well, including providing strong support at times of specific needs, such as following a bereavement. The childminder promotes children's social skills well. Children help to make rules for their own games. They grow in confidence and security. The childminder helps children to recognise risks and begin to manage their own safety. She promotes children's understanding of good hygiene procedures and of healthy lifestyles.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The childminder effectively helps children to develop the skills and attitudes they need for their future learning. They are well prepared for starting school. For example, children are taught to listen carefully and encouraged to speak about things that interest them. They concentrate and follow instructions. Children's counting and mathematical skills are developed well. For example, they learn to match numbers of objects in a game of dominoes and recognise written numbers accurately. They learn to recognise different shapes and distinguish between a square and a rectangle, for example. Children's early reading and writing skills are developed well.
