This provision is good
Teaching is strong. The childminder works closely with parents and other settings that some children also attend, to observe and assess the good progress children make. Activities and experiences are suitably challenging and help children to be self- motivated and to enjoy their learning. The childminder helps children to constantly make choices in their play. She listens to what children say and encourages them to decide what they want to do, and how they want to do it. Children concentrate and become engrossed in what they are doing. They show particular interest in reading stories and enjoy using their imaginations in their creative play. Children follow good hygiene practices throughout the day and learn about how to keep themselves healthy and safe. For example, they talk about what clothes they need to wear when outdoors and safely cut fruit with a knife at snack time. The childminder constantly monitors her practice and the children's learning. She uses

training events and shares good practice with other childminders to extend her skills and knowledge. The views of parents and children are sought as part of the childminder's good self-evaluation.

It is not yet outstanding because:
Older children are not challenged as far as possible to explore the sounds of letters and to talk about the position of objects, in order to make the highest level of achievement in this aspect of their learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

make better use of opportunities that help older children to explore the sounds of letters and to talk about the position of objects.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors. She assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder assesses the risks to children's safety and welfare. She knows what action to take to protect children from harm. The childminder is well qualified and ambitious. She has addressed the recommendation from the previous inspection. For example, children enjoy varied and nutritious foods that help them to learn about the importance of healthy eating. Parents are well informed of the childminder's practice and their children's learning. They benefit from daily discussions with the childminder and are given the written policies and procedures to read. In their written feedback, parents describe the childminder as being friendly and enthusiastic. Children state that the childminder is a kind, fantastic lady and they like her house and the toys provided.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and develop. She provides children with a very good range of stimulating play resources and plans activities that reflect their individual interests. Children enjoy dressing up and have great fun exploring and finding shapes hidden in the garden. The childminder engages very well with children and she enthuses them to learn. She extends children's learning by asking lots of questions and encourages them to think and to share their ideas. This leads to children experimenting and finding ways to succeed in their chosen tasks. For example, children decide to hide shapes in the sand and they ask the childminder to find them.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder helps children and their families to feel welcome and to settle well. Children develop very close attachments and show respect and kindness towards others. Older children praise younger children for their achievements. All children are learning to share, take turns and to manage their feelings and behaviour well. The childminder focuses strongly on building children's confidence and self-esteem. She gives them plenty of praise and encouragement, and children show interest and pride in the photographs displayed of them at play. Children have lots of opportunities to explore the outdoors. They enjoy walks in the park, collect leaves for their collage and observe changes over time while growing pumpkins.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They are well prepared for the next stage in their learning and for school, when the time comes. Children have good social skills and are confident talkers. They use descriptive words as they suggest that flour and water is too sticky, and name shapes, such as a hexagon. Children develop their reading skills as they explore storybooks and join in with rhymes and songs. They enjoy practising their early writing skills while making marks in flour and water. Children are learning to be independent. They put on their coats and shoes to go outdoors, and are learning to attend to their toileting needs themselves.
