This provision is outstanding

 The childminder uses comprehensive and highly accurate observations and assessments to monitor children's progress. This enables her to identify any gaps in children's learning and to seek appropriate support. All children make excellent progress from their starting points.  The childminder forms secure emotional attachments with the children. She works very closely with parents to ensure that she continually has a wealth of knowledge about each individual child. This strongly supports the excellent continuity of care and learning for children.  The childminder knows when to let children do things for themselves and when to offer support and guidance. This helps children to be thoroughly engaged and motivated to learn.  Children feel extremely secure. The childminder supports their emotional and physical well-being exceptionally well. She is extremely sensitive to children's individual personalities and needs, and responds promptly so that children are very comfortable.

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on the children's learning.  The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's qualification and training certificates, and records showing her suitability to work with children.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder in relation to observations of children's play, learning and progress.  The inspector took account of the written views of parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent knowledge of child protection issues and the local safeguarding procedures to follow to protect children from harm. She is very secure in her understanding of how to recognise when a child is at risk and how to respond quickly and effectively. The childminder seeks advice and guidance from professionals and conducts her own research, for example, she attends a variety of carefully chosen training courses. Currently, she is in the process of building stronger partnerships with local schools to support children even further for their move to school.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder provides an extremely welcoming environment where children enjoy a range of learning experiences. She involves herself highly effectively in children's activities as well as inspiring their independence, such as in child-initiated play. Babies have plenty of space to explore and investigate. They respond positively, and delight in making sounds and repeating words. The childminder supports children extremely well in developing mathematical skills. For example, children are absorbed in matching items by colour into the correct boxes, while displaying high levels of focus and concentration. Younger children have plenty of time and space to explore and investigate. They show a fascination with musical instruments and technology toys as they find out how they work. The childminder supports children's language extremely well. For example, she uses songs, music and dance to stimulate children's listening and attention skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder is friendly and extremely responsive to children. She listens attentively and values their contributions. Children, including the very young, are actively involved in decision-making. This contributes to their excellent behaviour and high level of self- esteem. Children develop an excellent awareness of the benefits of following good health routines, such as eating nutritional foods, learning to identify and manage their care needs and being physically active. For example, children go for walks in the community and have access to large play equipment in the local parks. Children develop a strong understanding of respect and engage in acts of kindness for each other. For example, children observe and retrieve comforters for babies who are upset.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are highly curious, enthusiastic and motivated to learn. They enjoy solving problems, such as reorganising and matching visual cards into the correct colour sequence. Children are swiftly gaining early literacy and mathematical skills. They recognise letters and numbers as they play. Children have highly positive attitudes to learning and rapidly gain the skills that prepare them extremely well for school.
