This provision is good
The childminder has a good knowledge of children's individual learning needs and she regularly assesses their progress. She plans effectively for the next stages in their learning and children make good progress. Children settle well in this caring and child-friendly environment, where they build strong emotional bonds with the childminder and each other. The childminder supports children to learn, show respect and be kind to each other. Partnership with parents is good. The childminder keeps parents well informed about their children's care and learning and they have opportunities to share information with her on a regular basis. The childminder regularly reflects on the quality of her provision and she sets clear priorities to maintain a good service and positive outcomes for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently plan suitable experiences for babies to help develop their skills in exploring the world around them. The childminder has yet to establish fully effective working partnerships with other settings that children attend to help provide consistency in their care and learning.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of the interactions between the childminder and children as they engaged in activities together. The inspector looked at some of the childminder's documentation, including children's records, certificates of qualifications and training, and written policies and procedures. The inspector talked to the childminder about children's progress and development at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector spoke to and engaged with the children during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder clearly understands her responsibility to safeguard and protect children. She has a secure awareness of potential indicators that a child may be at risk and she knows the procedures to follow for reporting any concerns. The childminder regularly risk assesses her practice, to ensure that she maintains appropriate ratios and continues to meet children's individual needs. She keeps her knowledge of childcare up to date and she makes effective use of the skills she gains through professional development opportunities. For example, the childminder has updated her safeguarding policy to reflect recent guidance and she has improved her data protection procedures after attending training.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder generally organises the learning environment well for most children and offers a range of experiences across the different areas of learning. For example, older children enjoy looking at books, exploring with dough and engaging in role play. The childminder skilfully uses these activities to extend children's learning. For example, she introduces mathematical language to encourage children's awareness of numbers, colours and sizes. She encourages children's language skills, such as by asking questions, repeating words and phrases as she reads familiar stories to them. The childminder regularly observes children to identify and track their progress. She uses this information, and information gathered from parents, to plan for children's future learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children develop good personal and social skills, such as sharing and taking turns with resources and caring for others. Children behave well. They listen to and respond appropriately to the childminder's requests. The childminder helps children adopt healthy lifestyles and good hygiene practices. For example, she encourages children to follow appropriate hygiene routines and she provides them with healthy meals and snacks, which they thoroughly enjoy. Children talk excitedly about their trips to the park, where they enjoy exploring the large equipment and running around in the large, open space.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and they are typically well prepared for the next stage of their learning. Babies learn to communicate their needs, such as through their gestures and sounds. Older children are able to express themselves clearly as they engage in discussions, responding to the childminder's questions and asking questions of their own. Children demonstrate good levels of independence as they help with routine activities. They help to prepare the table for mealtimes and tidy away resources. This supports children's preparation for their eventual move to school.
