This provision is good
Children make good progress. The childminder supports their learning and development effectively from the start and keeps parents well informed of their children's progress. The childminder teaches children to develop positive attitudes and good behaviour. For example, children listen attentively, help others and use good manners. Children are happy, settled and form trusting relationships with the childminder. For example, they laugh together with others in their play, explore confidently and enjoy sociable mealtimes together. The childminder's self-evaluation is effective. She reflects on her practice to identify and make ongoing improvements to maintain her good quality standards of care.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses some opportunities to extend children's early reading skills to support their interests in other areas of learning. The childminder does not consistently encourage children to follow their interests and ideas to support their creativity and imaginations as effectively as possible.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and the quality of the childminder's interaction with the children. She also discussed the effectiveness of an activity with the childminder. The inspector observed the management of children's care routines. The inspector looked at children's assessment records. The inspector sampled the childminder's documentation and discussed her knowledge of the requirements of the early years foundation stage. The inspector observed the childminder working with her assistant and reviewed feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibility to support children's welfare. This includes how to respond in the event of an allegation against any adults living or working on the premises. She keeps all required policies and procedures, and accurate records of each child's attendance. The childminder works effectively with her assistant to maintain the required adult to child ratios and to meet children's care routines consistently. The childminder values professional development to update her knowledge and skills. For example, she uses information from training to learn more about behaviour management strategies and to improve the quality of her assistant's care and teaching.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her observations of children well to assess their development and plan their next steps for learning accurately. She works successfully with the other settings children attend to meet their developmental needs consistently. The childminder joins in children's play with enthusiasm to engage and challenge them well. For example, she encourages children to count in number songs. She extends this for older children to calculate how many things are left as the numbers decrease. The childminder provides lots of opportunities for children to think and speak. For example, she asks them questions about their home lives and helps them to learn new words, such as animal names and colours.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder maintains safe and secure environments for children through, for example, completing risk assessments of her home. She includes activities to support children's health and physical development effectively. For example, children play outside regularly where they run around, play ball games, climb and use wheeled toys. Children also join in lively action songs moving their bodies in different ways. The childminder supports children in learning about one another's different lives and diversity in their world. For example, she gains key words in children's home languages from parents to use in communication and on displays.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop the skills for their future learning and are well prepared to move on to school. They are interested in learning and join in activities with enthusiasm. Children develop good independence and manage tasks for themselves. For example, they learn to change their shoes and clothing and how to chop their own fruit at meals. Children talk confidently and develop good social skills, such as making friends at the setting.
