This provision is good
The quality of teaching is good. The experienced and well-qualified childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She provides them with a broad range of interesting learning experiences. Children make good progress. For example, the childminder stimulates children's good communication, language and mathematical development. The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment. Children form strong bonds with her. They behave well, and are confident and eager to learn. Partnerships with parents and other providers are good. Children benefit from this shared approach to their care and learning needs, and this improves outcomes for children. Parents are pleased with the care provided by the childminder. The childminder has high expectations of herself and the children in her care. She accurately evaluates the quality of her practice and takes steps to develop it more. She has a clear vision for her continuous professional development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide the best possible opportunities for children to develop their ideas and creativity. At times, the childminder does not build on children's understanding of letter sounds to encourage their early literacy development.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of the childminder's interactions and her teaching, and the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector viewed the areas of the premises and garden used for childminding. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including children's records, evidence of suitability and the childminder's training certificates. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at various times during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to during the inspection, and through written evaluations and comments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is confident about child protection issues and the procedures to follow to support children's welfare. The childminder places the utmost importance on children's safety. She supervises children well to help keep them safe from harm. She carries out regular checks of the environment to help children stay safe in her home and when on outings. She updates her skills, knowledge and any changes to legislation. For example, she meets with other childminders to share and observe effective practice. She evaluates her practice well, such as by gaining feedback from parents and children to improve her service.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder undertakes observations and assessments of children's achievements. She successfully uses this information to help her identify and plan for the next steps in their learning. The childminder supports children's communication and language skills well. For example, she encourages discussions and conversations as they play imaginatively with the role-play resources. She talks to children about what they are doing and repeats and models the pronunciation of new words, for instance, the names of different dinosaurs. She encourages children's investigative skills well, for instance, as they experiment with mixing paints to create new colours.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and settled in the childminder's care. She consistently praises children and builds their self-esteem and confidence. Children develop good levels of independence during everyday routines. For example, they help to tidy up and learn to put on protective aprons before painting. They enjoy plenty of opportunities to be physically active, for instance, when they spend time outdoors in the garden and during visits to parks. Children learn about good hygiene routines, such as knowing to wash their hands before they enjoy the healthy snacks. They gain an understanding of people's differences, for example, as they learn about and celebrate different festivals.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop well from their starting points. They are well prepared for the next stage in their learning, including school. They show enthusiasm for learning and gain in confidence and independence. Children learn to use small tools carefully and with skill, such as when using glue spreaders and scissors during model making. They develop an interest in reading materials, for example, as they listen to stories which involve them in performing actions. They learn to count, and recognise numerals and different shapes with confidence. Children develop their understanding of the natural world well, for example, as they collect acorns during visits to the local meadow.
