This provision is good
The childminder reflects on her practice well to successfully identify areas for further development. This has helped her to increase the range of sensory and exploratory play opportunities for children. Effective communication with other settings that children attend enables the childminder to provide good continuity of care and learning for children. The childminder works well with parents to meet the individual care needs of children well. Children are content and comfortable in the care of the childminder. The childminder observes and plans well to support children's good progress. She shares information with parents about children's learning, and successfully identifies children's next steps to provide effective activities to close any gaps in their learning promptly. The childminder supports all areas of children's development well. Children have fun and learn through play. The childminder provides a good range of

resources and activities to interest children at their different ages and stages of development.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not fully extend the opportunities to help all children learn about the similarities and differences in their backgrounds. The childminder does not involve parents further to share what their children learn at home, to contribute more to the assessment of their children's progress and learning.

The inspector checked required documentation, including insurance and training certificates. The inspector looked at a sample of children's development records. The inspector checked safety and suitability of the premises.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder uses information and ideas from the internet well to increase children's learning opportunities. For example, she has created a mud kitchen in the garden to provide additional interest for children. Toddlers show intrigue as they sprinkle dry rice on a tray, noticing new sound and texture. The childminder updates and refreshes her secure knowledge regularly, and amends her policies and procedures to reflect requirements. The childminder knows how to report any concerns promptly to help protect children's welfare. Safeguarding is effective.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's communication and language well. For example, she teaches them to sign words, such as 'please' and 'thank you', to also further develop their social skills. Toddlers look closely at pictures in a book and copy the childminder as she demonstrates actions. The childminder encourages young children well to learn sounds and name things as they play, effectively helping them to develop a wider vocabulary. The childminder uses her good knowledge of children's individual interests well to support their development. For example, toddlers enjoy putting their favourite toy vehicles in paint to make wheel prints. To increase challenge, the childminder talks to children about the colours they see and make. The childminder evaluates the effectiveness of activities well to continue to provide targeted challenge. For instance, toddlers develop stability and coordination, and then learn to use physical play equipment.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder nurtures young children well with patience and reassurance. She has an effective settling-in procedure to successfully help build trust and warm relationships. Toddlers respond well to the childminder and understand the routines. For example, they know when it is time for lunch and readily sit at the table to eat together. The childminder teaches children well about safety. For example, older children learn to cross the road safely with the childminder. Younger children know that they must hold hands or wear reins to be safe. The childminder takes children on outings to increase their play experiences. For instance, they enjoy trips to toddler groups, the aquarium and beach. Toddlers show their early understanding of sharing and pass toys to others.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children feel at home with the childminder and her family. They show interest in each other's activities and their surroundings. For example, toddlers watch intently as the childminder shows them how to do something. Toddlers move from room to room with confidence and decide where they want to play. They develop good skills for learning and are well prepared to move on to pre-school and school.
