children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Managers and staff have worked hard since the last inspection and have met all of the requirements. As a result, young people’s progress and experiences have improved. Keyworker sessions have improved. This has enabled young people to engage with staff about issues that affect them. This has included talking about frustrations, relationships and friendships. Young people’s views are now sought on a number of topics about the home and the care that they receive. Young people are encouraged to raise issues that they would like to talk about. Staff and managers respond to young people’s issues in a prompt manner. Young people are starting to participate in their own risk assessments, identifying risks for themselves. As a result, young people feel that they have a voice that, in turn, increases their self-efficacy. Young people are prepared for independence. Staff seek young people’s views and embed them into their individual independence plans and reviews. Young people

do not move on to the next stage of independence until they feel comfortable and confident with the tasks they are completing. Staff support young people to achieve independence in line with their care plan and the abilities of the young person. This ensures that independence plans are bespoke to each young person and that they are prepared to move into adulthood. Some young people are working towards having their own pet in their independence plan. Young people are safe. Safeguarding concerns are notified to the appropriate professionals. Complaints are addressed swiftly and young people are satisfied with the response. Risk assessments and behaviour management plans are robust and detail individual risks and strategies designed to help staff minimise risks. Supervision of staff is now regular and focuses on staff practice and the needs of young people. Appraisals are all up to date and staff are now receiving training that

p.5
Information about this inspection
Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people living in the children’s home. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the difference adults make to the lives of children and young people. They read case files, watched how professional staff work with children, young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care given to children and young people. Wherever possible, they talked to children, young people and their families. In addition, the inspectors have tried to understand what the children’s home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people who it is trying to help, protect and look after. This inspection focused on the effectiveness of the home and the progress and experiences of children and young people since the most recent full inspection.
