This provision is good
The childminder is nurturing and attentive to children's individual needs. Children are settled and feel confident to explore and investigate. Children enjoy a varied range of resources and activities that are closely matched to their age and stage of development. They make good progress in their learning from their starting points. The childminder provides a large, child-friendly environment which enables children to play freely and make choices about what to do. Young children behave well. The childminder provides clear explanations about sharing and taking turns and helps them to learn good manners. The childminder seeks and effectively uses the views of parents and children to help her identify areas for further development. For example, she has made changes to her home to improve the learning environment and has gained a childcare qualification which has extended her understanding of how children learn.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
There are not extensive opportunities for children to learn about diversity and their differences and similarities with others. The childminder does not share as much information as possible with parents about their children's progress and does not consistently give them ideas of how to support their learning at home.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector had discussions with the childminder. The inspector observed the childminder's interaction with the children during activities. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including records relating to the children and safeguarding procedures. The inspector observed and discussed an activity with the childminder. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is knowledgeable about the signs that a child may be at risk of harm and knows what to do if she has concerns. She regularly attends safeguarding training to keep her skills up to date. Overall, the childminder works well with parents to meet children's individual needs and provide consistency in their care and learning. For example, she chats to them at handover time, uses contact books and sends photographs to them daily to keep them informed about what their children are doing. She has good procedures for sharing information with other settings that she will use when children start attending there.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows children well. She finds out their starting points from parents and uses her own observations and assessment to track their progress. This enables her to spot any gaps in their learning and take positive steps to close these. For example, she discusses any concerns with parents to ensure any professional help is quickly sought. The childminder uses effective teaching methods to support children's learning. For example, she sits on the floor with them and joins in with their play. She is skilled at supporting children's early language skills. During the inspection she introduced new words such as 'squeezing' and squidging' when they explored the play dough and repeated words back to them to help their pronunciation. She also introduced simple mathematical language, such as 'tiny' during a story-sack activity.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder nurtures young children, providing cuddles and reassurance as they play and explore. She quickly responds when they are hungry and when they become tired. The childminder helps children to adopt healthy lifestyles. For example, she ensures that they enjoy daily exercise outdoors and encourages parents to provide nutritious meals. Overall, there is a large selection of resources for children to choose from. Even toddlers confidently help themselves to what they want to play with or ask for toys that are out of reach. Children learn to respect others and show how much they care for one another. For example, a child rubbed another's back when they cried.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning and their eventual move to school. They are developing good communication skills as they learn new words and interact enthusiastically with the childminder and one another. Children develop good early literacy skills and they enjoy looking at books and using story sacks. Young children begin to recognise number names and simple shapes during activities.
