This provision is good
Since the previous inspection, the childminder has updated her knowledge and understanding of the information required in the progress check for children at two years. She has also strengthened her assessment and monitoring systems and now clearly identifies and plans for children's next steps in learning. This helps to show children's ongoing development and progress more effectively. The childminder's calm and gentle nature helps children feel welcome, safe and secure. They are content and show confidence as they explore the play environment. The childminder evaluates her practice well and has processes in place to help her identify where she can improve her practice. The childminder shows a good knowledge of children's backgrounds and interests and she makes sure activities they enjoy are available.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently encourage children to explore and experiment with a wide range of materials and resources, to further support their understanding of the world. The childminder is not consistently effective in encouraging all parents to fully contribute what their children achieve at home.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact of this on children's learning. The inspector viewed the areas of the home used for childminding. The inspector jointly evaluated and activity with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and viewed relevant records and documents, including the self-evaluation form. The inspector took account of the views of written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder carries out thorough risk assessments to help keep children safe. She has a secure understanding of her responsibility to take any action needed if she has any concerns about a child in her care. The childminder is also aware of how to identify if children are at risk from extreme behaviour or views. The childminder continues to develop her professional knowledge. For example, as a result of training she has extended ways to support children to have more choice in their play. This helps improve the quality of her childminding service and the outcomes for children. The childminder regularly shares information on children's progress with parents.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder shows a keen interest in how children learn and develop. She uses this knowledge to provide very young children with opportunities to develop early speaking and listening skills. For example, she role plays with them and talks to them about what they might have for breakfast and that they need a bowl and a spoon for the cereal. The childminder also counts and names the colours of various resources the children pick up. She is sensitive to their needs and supports and guides them well. The childminder gathers information from parents about their children when they first start with her. For example, their likes, dislikes and physical capabilities. This helps her support their learning right from the start.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children's personal, social and emotional development is given good attention. For example, they attend toddler groups, so they can mix with other children of a similar age. The childminder encourages children's good behaviour and expects them to listen when she speaks firmly but sensitively. She is aware that meeting other children helps teach them the importance of respecting others and sharing toys. The childminder takes children out almost every day. For example, they visit local parks and take long walks. These activities help enhance their physical development and well-being. The childminder provides children with healthy snacks and helps them understand the need to eat a balanced and nutritious diet.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and independent, and enjoy trying out new activities. Babies concentrate well as they explore their physical abilities. Very young children practise their early writing skills and are proud when they make marks on the paper. They are progressing well within the range of development typical for their age. Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning.
