This provision is good

 The childminder provides a wide range of motivating and stimulating activities in her home and other places she takes children, to support their learning.  The childminder regularly observes children, accurately tracks their progress and plans for their future development. Children make good progress in their learning.  The childminder and her assistant are caring, kind and sensitive to meet children's individual needs. Children settle in quickly and are happy in their care.  The childminder accurately identifies her strengths and priorities for development. She seeks the views of children and parents, and acts on their suggestions to make improvements in her practice to benefit all children.  The childminder and her assistant skilfully enhance children's communication and language development, for example, with meaningful conversation and questioning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not exchange information about children's next steps in learning with parents and staff at other settings children attend, to help provide a more consistent approach to their learning.  The childminder does not provide children with easy access to mark-making resources, to help them practise their early writing.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities

 The inspector looked at the quality of the learning environment.  The inspector and the childminder evaluated the effectiveness of an activity together.  The inspector observed interactions between the childminder, her assistant and the children.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, including the childminder's policies and children's assessment folders.  The inspector spoke to parents on the day of inspection and took account of their views.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant regularly update their knowledge of child protection to guarantee that they have a secure understanding of procedures to follow, should they have concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder guides and supervises her assistant well. For example, she ensures that they research early years matters together, to help them use their knowledge to plan effectively, which helps to benefit each child's learning. Since the last inspection, the childminder has placed a high focus on children's physical well-being. For example, she provides more opportunities for children to be active in the garden to enhance their physical skills.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder and her assistant engage children in a range of good learning experiences. For example, they build on children's early knowledge of mathematical concepts asking questions about colours, sizes and numbers while they complete puzzles. The childminder and her assistant support children learning English as an additional language well. For example, they actively use children's home languages during play, to help build on their communication skills. The childminder helps children to solve problems. For instance, she encourages children to persevere to connect track pieces together for their trains.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder and her assistant meet individual children's needs well. They offer lots of affection and reassurance to children to help them build a sense of belonging. The childminder and her assistant encourage children's creativity. For example, children enjoyed using musical instruments, moving and doing actions to rhymes. The childminder teaches children about similarities and differences between themselves and others, to enhance their awareness of diversity and to respect one another. For instance, she shows children how some people eat using chopsticks. The childminder provides children with healthy meals, to help them stay healthy and understand how to lead a healthy lifestyle.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are active and motivated to learn. They enjoy stories and singing familiar rhymes. Children develop good levels of independence. For instance, very young children are eager to drink water from an open cup. Children enjoy exploration of different textures. For example, they searched for animals hidden in cereal flakes. Children are imaginative and confidently initiate play. They are kind and behave well. All children, including those who learn English as an additional language, make good progress. They learn skills that prepare them for their future learning.
