safely. The childminder is committed to continuous improvement and providing good quality care and learning. She has a good knowledge of the strengths of her provision and keeps up to date with new guidance and initiatives in the early years field.

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the premises and observed the outdoor area. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises, children's development records, risk assessments and a selection of policies and procedures. The inspector observed children engaged in learning activities indoors. The inspector talked to the childminder about her plans for improvement. The inspector took account of the views of parents through the written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. For example, the childminder knows how to swiftly meet the children's needs in the event of a child protection concern. The childminder is committed to providing children with a good standard of care and learning. She makes the most of every opportunity to develop her knowledge and skills. She builds meaningful relationships with the children and supports them to learn about other lifestyles and the world around them, for example, during outings into the local community. The childminder builds strong partnerships with other settings children attend, supporting consistency in their learning and development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her observations of children at play to assess their development. She then uses these observations to plan for children's next steps in learning, linking activities to their interests. Younger children's attention is immediately captured as the childminder makes story times interactive. They dress up as their favourite princess characters and act out the relevant stories. This is one way she supports children's communication, language and literacy development. The childminder teaches children basic mathematics through daily routines and activities. For example, during an activity with small-world resources, children sort the toys into bigger and smaller groups. Children make marks and patterns with different tools using their fingers. They find out how things work and solve a wide range of puzzles as they carefully fit the pieces together.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder helps children to behave well and be polite. She provides them with good support and builds on their emotional well-being with, for example, consistent and ongoing praise. The childminder supports children's good health effectively. She provides children with nutritious snacks and encourages their physical development well. The childminder provides children with regular opportunities for outdoor play. Children develop good physical skills, eagerly balancing and climbing on the large equipment at the local park or jumping on the trampoline in the garden. The childminder teaches children how to be safe. They talk about the house rules which involve having respect for each other and not climbing on the furniture.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children develop important skills needed to aid their future learning and eventual move to school. They learn to dress and undress independently and practise good personal hygiene routines independently. Children have their individual needs and interests met well. They listen attentively to stories and understand that print carries meaning. Children develop a good understanding of mathematical concepts. They count objects during their play and begin to recognise numbers and shapes. They learn about the natural world and thoroughly enjoy activities, such as digging and playing in the mud.
