Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through discussion and from written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection and wider safeguarding issues. She knows how to report any safeguarding concerns about adults or children. Effective assessment and monitoring arrangements are used to ensure any gaps in learning are identified. The childminder understands the importance of working in partnership with other professionals to support children's individual care and learning needs. She evaluates her provision and regularly exchanges ideas with other childminders. Parents are also involved in the evaluation process. Comments from parents are very complimentary about the care and service provided.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans a good range of play experiences that stimulate children's interest and curiosity. For example, the youngest children smile with delight from the responses created when interacting with different cause and effect toys. Older children show high levels of concentration as they spend time engrossed in some activities. For example, they carefully think about their actions as they create different marks and patterns, such as circles and letters. The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills well. She routinely models language, introducing new words and various letter sounds. Children take part in various physical activities and enjoy singing and swaying along to their favourite rhyme. The childminder asks questions that encourage older children to think about shapes, size and number. This helps promote their awareness of early mathematical development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children thrive as they have formed warm and positive relationships with the childminder and each other. The organisation of the playroom enables children to make independent choices in their selection of resources. Children move freely around the playroom, demonstrating a strong sense of belonging and security. They take part in various routines that promote their good health and welfare. There is a range of experiences offered to help develop their physical skills, such as visiting parks and places of interest in the community. Regular visits to local playgroups provide additional opportunities for children to develop their social skills. The childminder maintains regular communication with children's parents to ensure their individual care routines are supported.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning from their starting points. They are acquiring strong communication and language skills. Children are active, motivated and are developing good social and emotional skills. They are gaining the key skills needed for their future learning and for their eventual move on to school. For example, they are interested in books and different aspects of early literacy, such as early mark making.
