This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder has not ensured that she has provided Ofsted with the required information to enable them to complete suitability checks for her assistant. The childminder does not gather detailed information from parents about what their children already know and can do on entry to help with early activity planning.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Children make good progress in their learning. The childminder knows children well and plans carefully for their interests. Where any gaps in learning are identified, the childminder plans interventions and activities to help children succeed. Children form strong emotional attachments with the childminder, her assistant and other children at the setting. This helps them to feel safe and secure. The childminder uses effective strategies to manage children's behaviour. She sets realistic boundaries and expectations. This helps to promote children's cooperation. Children are polite, respectful, and share toys and resources well. Parents speak very highly of the care their children receive. For example, they say that the childminder and her assistant are a, 'Fantastic team' and that they are, 'Professional, extremely welcoming and passionate about the children they look after'. Children learn to adopt a healthy lifestyle. For example, the childminder provides them

with nutritious snacks and meals. Children have daily opportunities to practise their physical skills, such as when they play in the garden and visit the local park and nature areas.

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the premises, observed a range of activities and spoke to the children. The inspector talked to the childminder and her assistant about their practice, including self-evaluation at appropriate points throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation and saw evidence of the suitability of people living and working on the premises. The inspector spoke to a parent and looked at written feedback from other parents and took account of their views. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child's welfare. She makes good use of safety checks and risk assessments to minimise any hazards. The childminder has not ensured that Ofsted have all information to complete suitability checks for her assistant. However, because her assistant holds a Disclosure and Barring Service check and her work is supervised there is no significant impact on children's welfare. The childminder reflects on her practice to support continuous improvement. She welcomes the views of parents and her assistant as she considers how she can enhance the service that she provides. She supports the work of her assistant and encourages her to continue with her professional development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes and assesses children's progress well to move them forward in their learning. She plans effectively and provides good quality learning experiences for children. The childminder asks parents about children's interests at the start of the placement. However, she does not gather detailed information from parents about what their children already know and can do to help with early activity planning. Children enjoy access to a wealth of good quality resources. The childminder supports younger children to explore and play with different toys. She sits with them as they play, for example encouraging them to build with blocks and counts with them as they play to increase their understanding of number. Children's language and communication are promoted well. The childminder and her assistant give children time to respond to their questions and they listen carefully to what they are saying. Good provision is made for outdoor learning

opportunities and children explore the local and wider environment. For example, they take part in regular outings to the farm, nature areas, parks and soft-play areas.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Due to the childminder not ensuring that all suitability checks for persons working on the premises are completed, the arrangements for promoting children's welfare require improvement. That said, children are settled and happy in the childminder's care. Lots of information is obtained about children's care needs before they start so the childminder can settle them in quickly. The childminder helps children to learn how to keep themselves safe. For example, they participate in evacuation practices and she talks to them about what to do should an emergency occur. They also learn about aspects of road safety and stranger awareness when on outings.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children gain the skills they require to prepare them for the next stage in their learning, including school. They are motivated learners who engage well in the activities on offer. They are becoming confident talkers and constantly communicate with the childminder and her assistant. They clearly understand instructions and show an awareness of the importance of following these. Their independence is developing well. For example, their ability to manage personal tasks such as feeding and dressing themselves is increasing.
