Children access a wide range of toys and resources that challenge and motivate them to learn. Children make good progress in their personal, social and emotional development. They have high levels of self-confidence and self-esteem. The childminder regularly reflects on her practice and shows a commitment to improvement. Partnership with parents is good. p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder with the children and spoke with the childminder about children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection, regarding her practice and the arrangements for observation, assessment and planning. The inspector checked the documentation the childminder uses to support her practice. The inspector discussed the childminder's processes for self-evaluation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of child protection issues that may cause concern and how to take appropriate action. She thoroughly risk assesses all areas of her home to help enable children to play in a safe environment. The childminder evaluates her setting and practice effectively. Since her last inspection, the childminder has taken steps to engage with other settings that children may attend and this helps her to support continuity of care and learning. The childminder implements a range of policies and procedures that she shares with her assistant so he understands his role when supporting her. The childminder is keen to continue her professional development to help improve her teaching practice. For example, she makes good use of online training courses to develop her knowledge, which she shares effectively with her assistant.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder monitors children's progress effectively, for example, by reviewing their assessment records regularly. She uses the information well to help ensure she provides activities that meet children's needs. Children are confident learners and eagerly explore the resources. For example, they enjoy a variety of games and learn how to share and take turns. The childminder skilfully uses these activities to extend children's learning. For example, she introduces mathematical language to encourage children's awareness of shapes, sizes and numbers. She develops children's communication skills effectively. For example, she models good vocabulary and repeats words for children to hear.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder acts as a good role model for children and offers them gentle guidance and praise. Children are confident in the childminder's care and behave very well. The childminder teaches children about leading healthy lifestyles and encourages them to make good choices about the food they eat. Children develop a good awareness of managing their own personal care needs. For example, they confidently feed themselves at lunchtime and they wash their hands independently.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children play well together, learning to share and wait patiently for their turn. They learn to communicate their wishes and needs confidently. Children have good levels of concentration that enable them to complete tasks well. For example, they develop a love of books and listen well when the childminder reads stories. They are well prepared for their future learning and for their eventual move to school.
