p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder evaluates the strengths of her provision and makes continual improvements. She has addressed the recommendation from her last inspection and ensures children have many opportunities to enjoy play with a range of natural materials. The childminder uses professional development opportunities to help improve her skills and provision. For example, she uses professional magazines to research activities to enrich children's creative experiences. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a suitable understanding of safeguarding issues and knows how to recognise and report any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder completes effective risk assessments of her premises and takes action to keep children safe. She uses her strong links with the school children attend, and her monitoring of children's developing skills and interests in order to ensure she provides appropriate resources and activities.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder complements the learning children undertake at school. She provides many opportunities for children to develop their imagination, creative and social skills. They have time to follow through on their ideas, work out how objects operate and collaborate with children of differing ages as a cooperative group. The childminder supports children with their reading skills and understanding of numbers. She is aware of how the local school teaches writing so the children are provided with consistent examples of letter formation. This supports children to build on the skills and knowledge they gain during their time at school. The childminder provides good support and children have fun. The childminder involves children in the planning of activities and responds well to their ideas.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a home-from-home environment, helping to ensure parents and children are happy and confident with the care given. Children are delighted when they see the childminder at school collection time. They play well together and learn to have regard for the feelings of others. The childminder encourages children to consider the effects of their behaviour and choices through simple explanations. The childminder establishes close bonds with the children, which helps her to support their care needs and emotional well-being. The childminder is flexible in how she organises the daily routines, offering children choices about what they would like to do and when. This helps to support their engagement in activities and their self-esteem. The childminder helps children to think about healthy eating and encourages them to try a range of foods as part of a balanced diet.
