The childminder builds on the skills that children learn at school. She encourages children to show an interest in completing homework, which helps them continue to make good progress in their learning. The childminder's home provides a safe, secure and inviting environment. Children quickly settle once they arrive from school or home because they understand the daily routine. The childminder promotes the equality of opportunity for different groups of people. For example, when reading a story about fishermen, she makes reference to women and girls also being able to undertake these roles. Children demonstrate growing confidence and independence. The childminder provides encouragement and praise when children do things for themselves. Children have daily opportunities to be active and spend time in the fresh air. They walk and ride scooters to and from school, which provides opportunities to promote their

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands her responsibility to meet the legal requirements. She has a sound understanding of what to do if she has concerns about children's welfare. The childminder ensures that information about statutory services is easily accessible for parents. Records and documentation are suitably maintained and fundamental information about children is obtained from parents. The childminder has an established relationship with the local school that children attend, and information about children's time at school is exchanged. Partnerships between the school, home and the childminder mean that children are provided with consistency in their care and learning. The childminder has ensured that she has attended mandatory training, such as first aid, to help support her day-to-day practice.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder helps children to build on their knowledge and skills. She plans time each day when she helps children with their homework. The childminder attentively listens and uses appropriate questioning to ensure that children understand the theme or information they are reading. Her positive approach to completing daily literacy activities means that children are keen to join in and have a go. Children confidently recall their spellings and show very good emerging writing skills as they write about their weekend. The childminder helps the children to recall information which helps them with this task. She also ensures that children benefit positively from the many different types of activities and experiences that they also take part in when with her. They confidently make choices about what they would like to do. They enjoy showing and talking about special items that they have brought from home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder ensures that children's welfare and safety are promoted because she considers and minimises risks that she identifies in her home. She builds good relationships with parents, who value the service she provides. The childminder provides healthy and nutritious, freshly cooked meals. She takes into account any dietary or health requirements that individual children have. Children show that they enjoy the responsibility of getting the table ready with placemats, cutlery and drinks. The childminder knows all children well and they appear happy and settled. Their emotional well-being is well promoted. The childminder's home is suitably laid out and children show that they understand the rules and boundaries that have been introduced to promote their welfare and safety. They listen and follow instructions and are well mannered and well behaved at all times.
