p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The well-qualified childminder is passionate about her role with children. She attends regular safeguarding training and has a thorough knowledge of the indicators of abuse, neglect and other risks to children. The childminder carefully monitors their welfare and safety. She knows exactly what action to take if she has concerns about a child. The childminder ensures that she is always up to date with current legislation and changes that have an impact on her practice. She continually seeks additional knowledge and expertise. The childminder attends a variety of carefully chosen training courses, seeks advice and guidance from professionals and conducts her own research. This contributes to the high-quality teaching that children benefit from.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder provides an extremely welcoming environment where children enjoy a range of rich learning experiences. She involves herself highly effectively in their activities and knows when to take a step back to aid their independence and to encourage child- initiated play. The childminder has an in-depth knowledge about each child's interests and the high-quality teaching enhances their learning. For example, an interest in dinosaurs leads to them visiting a play venue where they have fun learning more about these creatures. Older children confidently describe the names and features of several dinosaurs. The childminder makes extremely good use of the local environment to enhance children's learning. For example, they visit museums and engage in purposeful group activities to socialise with similar-aged children. The childminder is looking to offer more opportunities for younger children to explore sensory play.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder is friendly and responsive to children. She listens most attentively to them and values their contributions. Children, including very young toddlers, are actively involved in decision making. This contributes to their excellent behaviour and high levels of self-esteem. Children are consistently praised for all tasks no matter how small. They have a wealth of opportunities to help them learn about other cultures and traditions. For example, they have fun sharing information about artefacts and photographs collected from holidays abroad. The childminder ensures children are well nourished. They are making rapid progress in developing independence when attending to their personal hygiene needs. Children enjoy frequent opportunities to be active and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. They learn how to keep themselves safe in a number of ways, such as successfully using large play equipment at parks.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are curious learners and demonstrate high levels of confidence. They are extremely helpful to each other during their play and routines. Children are rapidly making progress in skills that they need at school. They confidently use pens and pencils to write their own names. The exceptionally well-planned balance of child-initiated and adult-led activities prepares them for future learning, including their eventual move on to school.
