This provision is good
The childminder makes accurate assessments and monitors children's achievements very closely to help her build on their strengths and address any delays in their development. She shares this information with her co-childminder and with parents, to agree what children need to do next to reach their potential. The childminder effectively supports children's understanding of how to keep themselves safe. For instance, children learn about road safety. The childminder uses all opportunities to introduce mathematical language to children. For example, she counts babies' fingers and taps out rhythms with toddlers. Children delight in measuring and comparing the sizes of their footprints and work out whose prints are the smallest. The childminder uses her voice very effectively to calm, captivate and communicate with children. She is kind and caring, and consistently models positive behaviour. Children learn what is expected of them and take pride in playing their role in the team.

This provision is good
Children make good progress in their learning and are well prepared for school.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasion, the childminder is slow to help parents understand how she balances the children's individual needs, care routines and their plans for home-time. At times, the childminder does not encourage children to describe problems they encounter or help them think of ways to solve problems to fully extend their learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed care routines and teaching, and the impact of these on children's learning and development. The inspector reviewed policies and discussed with the childminder her procedures relating to children's safety and welfare. The inspector listened to, and spoke with, the children as they played. The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day and in their written communications. The inspector spoke with the childminder and her co-childminder about the impact of their recent training, experience and practice on raising outcomes for children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is well trained in child protection procedures and has an accurate understanding of how to record and report concerns about a child's welfare. A comprehensive range of up-to-date policies and procedures underpins her good practice. Parents appreciate the detailed observations she makes of their children's progress and the quality of the activities she plans. The childminder has notified Ofsted of relevant changes and followed through checks, to confirm her continued suitability for her role. She works closely with her husband who is also a registered childminder. Together, they complete thorough risk assessments of the areas where children play and how they supervise children to keep them safe from harm.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses self-evaluation to identify the strengths in her practice and areas that she can improve further. She uses professional development opportunities well, to continue to raise the quality of her teaching. For example, since her last inspection she has significantly improved the way she models new language and vocabulary to develop young children's social skills. The childminder is skilled at devising activities that capture children's curiosity and challenge them to reach the next steps in their learning. For example, she motivates toddlers to master small hand movements as they become fascinated with wind-up toys. She encourages older children to express their own ideas; for instance, as they create, write and read out their own stories.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder and her husband are good role models. They establish clear rules and boundaries for behaviour, encourage children to speak politely and nurture increasing independence in managing their daily routines. The childminder effectively promotes children's good health. For example, she provides a wide range of nutritious snacks and meals, and encourages children's interest in trying new foods. Children thoroughly enjoy playing outdoors each day. The childminder ensures children have plenty of opportunities to be physically active and to explore the diversity of their local community.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good or better levels of progress in all areas of their learning. Children have the opportunity to play independently and explore rich learning environments. They enjoy helping themselves to a wide variety of books that illustrate diversity and promote their understanding of different people and communities in the world. Older children show enjoyment in their learning and confidence in their own abilities. They are self-assured and excited as they take on new challenges such as starting school.
