This provision is good
Children are happy and confident. The childminder forms very close bonds with them, so that they feel safe, secure and settle quickly. The childminder's home is welcoming and stimulating. All children have a good range of activities to keep them interested and motivate them to learn. Children display good social skills and play harmoniously, share and take turns. The childminder and her assistant are good role models. They are caring and attentive, providing clear and consistent explanations to support children's good behaviour. The childminder completes relevant training and shares knowledge with other practitioners. This has helped her to improve the support to children's developing language and protect them from potential risk. The childminder monitors children's learning effectively to identify and target any gaps. Children make good progress. The childminder effectively monitors the ongoing suitability of her assistant. She shares

her knowledge well to enable the assistant to support children's care and learning consistently.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not extend opportunities for children to develop their early reading skills, especially those who prefer to learn outdoors. The childminder does not effectively share information with parents and other settings that children attend, to support children more consistently in their learning.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the premises, toys and equipment indoors and outside. The inspector engaged in discussion with the childminder, her assistant and children. The inspector sampled documentation and children's records. The inspector observed interactions between children and adults. The inspector offered the childminder the opportunity to engage in a joint observation of an activity, which she declined.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of safeguarding procedures and is confident to follow these if required. She uses risk assessments effectively to help her complete daily visual checks to monitor the safety and suitability of the premises, toys and equipment. Children receive good support from the childminder to learn to identify and manage everyday risk, and practise emergency evacuation procedures. The childminder uses self-evaluation effectively to reflect on her skills and make changes that benefit children. This has helped her to identify the need to increase learning opportunities outdoors. The childminder uses additional funding well to support children. For example, she has purchased additional resources to build on their interests and boost their confidence when playing with others.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy their time with the childminder, who supports their learning well. For example, she encourages older children to discuss healthy eating when making pizzas and use sliced peppers to make the initial letter of their name. Younger children enjoyed the sensory experience of tasting the ingredients as they filled their pizza with different toppings. The childminder uses children's interests effectively to extend their learning. For example, she provides children with toy animals and dinosaurs, which helps them to share their knowledge of these with others, successfully boosting their self-esteem. Children communicate confidently. For example, older children share their experiences with others, and younger children express themselves well using body language, babbling and facial expression. The childminder listens attentively and is very responsive.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children have high confidence and openly express their ideas and opinions. They are proud of their achievements and the childminder consistently praises them. Children enjoy plenty of fresh air and physical exercise each day. For example, they enjoy trips to the beach and walks locally with the childminder, where they learn about wildlife and the world around them. Children follow good hygiene routines for hand washing, toileting and handling pets. Older children learn to manage their own care needs, increasing their independence in readiness for their move to other settings and school.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children have lots of fun and are very happy. They engage enthusiastically in the activities on offer and develop positive attitudes to learning. All children develop good skills that prepare them well for future learning. For example, older children communicate clearly and younger children make friends quickly and learn to help tidy up after activities.
