This provision is good
The childminder plans a range of stimulating activities that generally challenge children in all areas of learning. Children are motivated to join in and try new experiences. The childminder uses effective strategies to extend children's mathematical development regularly. For example, she uses numbers in songs and rhymes, a clock to help children learn to tell the time, and she incorporates children's interests to encourage counting. Children settle quickly and form strong relationships with the childminder and her co- childminder. This enables them to feel safe to explore their environment. The childminder encourages children's physical and emotional well-being. Children enjoy the physical opportunities available to them. They show an increasing awareness of hygiene routines and benefit from learning about healthy eating. The childminder keeps up to date with regular training. For example, after recent

training to support children's communication skills she now regularly uses signs with the children.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder is still embedding her new systems for observing and assessing children's progress, and not all parents consistently share what their children are learning at home, to help her plan more precisely for their individual needs. On occasion, the childminder misses opportunities to encourage children to build consistently on their developing independence skills.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The childminder gave the inspector a tour of the home. The inspector sampled documentation including policies and records of children's learning. The inspector took into consideration the self-evaluation process during the inspection. The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with children. Parents' views were taken into consideration.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of child protection and keeps up to date with changes, such as through regular training. She has made improvements since the last inspection and has successfully addressed the actions and recommendations. For instance, she keeps an accurate record of children's attendance and implements systems that support her to monitor children's progress. The childminder and her co-childminder evaluate their practice and provision each day and use this to identify where they can improve their practice and outcomes for children. They have two assistants that they occasionally use, and they monitor their practice and keep their knowledge up to date. Relationships with parents are strong and the childminder provides them with consistent support to help meet children's individual care needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a good balance of well-planned activities and opportunities for all children to lead their own learning. For example, some children enjoyed exploring the texture of mashed potato, while others enjoyed adding colours and discussing how to mix two colours together to make orange. The childminder uses observations and her discussions with parents to support her to gain a good understanding of children's likes and stage of development. The childminder encourages children's physical development in various ways. For example, children jump, move to rhymes, kick and throw balls, and enjoy outside play, such as using a role-play petrol pump to fill up their cars.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and settled. The childminder and her co-childminder provide a warm and inviting environment. For example, there are quieter areas for children to rest, which include comfortable pillows and blankets. The childminder shows enthusiasm and interest while supporting children's interests and learning. For instance, she joins in with children as they play with toy cars and a garage. She extends their learning through her skilled questioning. Children are regularly praised and this builds their self-esteem and confidence further. They confidently ask questions and share their ideas. Children understand how to keep themselves safe, for example, they routinely communicate with the childminder when they are going to the cloakroom.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress from their starting points. They learn how to keep themselves safe, for example, they practise an evacuation plan regularly. Children are learning to understand the differences between people and the diverse communities around them. For example, they attend groups with children from various backgrounds and experiences. Children are gaining the skills they need for their future learning.
