This provision is good
The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment for children to learn and explore within. The experienced and well-qualified childminder skilfully shapes activities to suit different ages and stages of development, enabling all children and babies to join in. Babies experiment with paint and brushes on paper. The childminder positions them so they can clearly watch older children, who stand at an easel, excitedly creating monsters with paint and their hands. The childminder works very closely with parents to ensure that children and babies settle into her setting as smoothly as possible. She follows routines for sleeping and eating that parents have established at home to help maintain continuity in their care. The childminder welcomes opportunities to enhance her already good knowledge and understanding of how children learn and develop. She reads professional publications, completes training and share ideas with other childminders to help her find new ways
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasions, the childminder does not encourage children to work out how to solve simple problems they encounter in their play or predict outcomes for themselves. The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to introduce new and exciting words into children's vocabulary.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home. She spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector observed the quality of teaching and discussed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector checked the evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other household members. She viewed a range of documentation, including the safeguarding procedures. The inspector looked at children's records and assessments. The inspector took into consideration the views of parents spoken to during the inspection, and those recorded in testimonials and emails.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has robust procedures in place to help her keep children safe. She explains the reasons why some rules are necessary to older children she cares for after school. This helps them understand how they can assist in keeping themselves and the younger children safe. The childminder effectively evaluates the quality of the care and education she provides. She gathers information from parents and children to help her continually improve her setting. The childminder works closely with other settings that children attend. She shares information with them that contributes to supporting children's ongoing progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder confidently uses information she has gathered from daily observations to help shape the activities she provides for children. She incorporates their next steps in learning in both prepared and spontaneous games and activities triggered by children's interests. Children select model food from a basket. They count plastic coins while they imagine they are in a shop. The childminder shows them how to point to each coin in turn when they count. This is one way the childminder supports children's development of mathematical concepts. The childminder shares children's accomplishments and experiences they have enjoyed with parents. In turn, she finds out what children have been doing at home to help her in planning their future learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children behave well in the childminder's care. She gently reminds them to share toys and equipment and encourages them to take turns. She praises children when they master new skills, helping them to feel proud of their achievements. Children respond well to the childminder's warm and caring approach. Babies relax in her arms while they drink their bottle of milk and children snuggle on her lap when she reads stories to them. They say that the childminder is their friend and welcome her input in their self-chosen games and activities. The childminder provides nutritious snacks and meals for children. They understand why they need to wash their hands before they eat and happily follow the routines the childminder has established. She provides daily opportunities for children to move around. They play at the park and in the garden to help support their physical development.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development. They are inquisitive and keen to learn. They use opportunities to recognise letters and numbers and ask questions to support their curiosity. The childminder monitors children's progress to help her swiftly identify and close any emerging gaps in learning, should they arise. When the time comes, children are ready to move on to school or nursery.
