This provision is good
The quality of teaching is strong, overall. The childminder expertly plans an extensive and highly challenging range of activities for children, using books as the basis for themes. This is one of the ways in which she seamlessly extends children's learning. Children show high levels of concentration and engagement during their learning experiences. They are independent and motivated as they comfortably self-select their resources and lead their play. Parents comment that the childminder helps children to grow in confidence. The childminder encourages and praises children, helping them to develop a positive attitude to learning new skills. The childminder has established a focused programme of professional development to continually drive forward the quality of teaching.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
There is scope to further extend information sharing with parents and other settings children attend, to support and sustain their good progress. Occasionally, the childminder does not fully support opportunities for children to have sufficient time to explore and investigate further.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is alert to the signs of possible abuse and neglect. Safeguarding training has ensured she knows exactly what action to take if she has concerns about a child's welfare. Risk assessment is thorough and ensures children are cared for in a safe and secure environment. The childminder continually reflects on many aspects of her service. She keeps her professional knowledge up to date through training, talking to other professionals and personal research. This helps improve outcomes for children. Children's progress is rigorously monitored and systems have been implemented to share some information with parents and other settings children attend. However, there is scope to extend this strong practice to support children to sustain their good progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The quality of the childminder's teaching is good. The childminder gathers information about children's learning through high-quality observations. She uses this information effectively to plan challenging activities, overall, that focus on children's individual next steps. The childminder places a high priority on communication. She takes time to listen carefully to children and extends their conversation effectively. The childminder demonstrates good use of teaching strategies, such as explanation and modelling, to help support children's learning. Children enjoy stories and rhymes as part of their daily routine. They use their mathematical skills well, counting the fruit and matching it to the story. The childminder talks about how they must cut open the fruit and she explains new words to the children. She talks about how the fruit is 'hard and soft, prickly and smooth' and names their colours.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children behave well and listen attentively to guidance and support from the childminder, who uses positive praise and encouragement. The childminder has a secure understanding of children's individual requirements. Children's emotional well-being is successfully fostered. The environment is homely and stimulating, both indoors and outdoors; children are clearly content and relaxed. They have access to a good range of resources, including natural and sensory materials, helping to enhance their play and learning. The childminder is fully aware of how to promote good health and hygiene to children. She provides them with opportunities to enhance their physical development, for example, during garden activities and outings in the local area.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are very articulate. They demonstrate good conversational skills as they listen and answer, asking questions in general to seek more information when needed. Outdoors, they learn to be physically active and enjoy activities that challenge their developing skills. Children enjoy participating in story time and use a range of accessible book resources. All children are developing skills that will enhance their future learning well and they make good progress, in relation to their starting points.
