Since the last inspection one young person has left the home. This was a planned move back to live with his family. The manager ensured that an effective transition plan was in place. This was developed in agreement with the young person’s social worker, and with family involvement. Prior to him leaving the home he continued to go missing, and place himself at serious risk of harm. Staff followed the agreed missing from home protocols and guidelines, and clear and concise records were maintained to demonstrate the robust action staff had taken. In response. In addition, the manager and staff worked collaboratively with the placing authority, police, and family to promote his safety and well-being.

The young person said ‘I like living here, the staff are nice and listen to me’. He gave 9/10 for living in the home. He said he feels safe in the home. The manager leads by example, and provides a nurturing environment for the young person. Staff place his needs at the centre of their practice. Shortly after his admission, and for a short period of time, his behaviours placed himself at risk of significant harm. The manager said that the behaviours exhibited were consistent with known behaviours identified prior to him moving in. The behaviours included attempts of self-harm. The records pertaining to the use of restraint are detailed. The manager has reviewed the measures used and whether the restraints were proportionate. The young person and staff did not sustain any injuries as a result of these incidents. The social worker confirmed that he has been informed of these incidents, and that the vast majority of the behaviours exhibited, are known behaviours. However, the manager has failed to notify Ofsted of these significant incidents.

The manager took some effective measures to ensure that the home’s environment was safe for the young person, considering known risks. The young person’s social worker considers that he is safe at the home, and confirmed that the manager keeps him regularly updated. The manager has developed a missing from home protocol and this has been shared and agreed with the local police missing person’s co-ordinator. The young person has not been missing since he came to live at the home.

Information about this inspection
Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people living in the children's home. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the difference adults make to the lives of children and young people. They read case files, watched how professional staff work with children, young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care given to children and young people. Wherever possible, they talked to children, young people and their families. In addition the inspectors have tried to understand what the children's home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people who it is trying to help, protect and look after. This inspection focused on the effectiveness of the home and the progress and experiences of children and young people since the most recent full inspection.
