This provision is good

 Children make good progress. The enthusiastic childminder provides a wide variety of experiences that encourage children's curiosity and motivation.  Positive relationships with parents and professionals are well developed, supporting continuity in children's care and enabling the childminder to get to know each child very well.  The childminder's careful self-evaluation is informed by comments from parents, professionals and children. This enables her to target aspects of her environment to develop further.  The childminder encourages a healthy lifestyle. Children benefit from daily opportunities for physical activity and mental stimulation. They learn good hygiene routines, eat healthily and have sufficient rest times. This enables children to feel comfortable, happy and enjoy their time with her.  The childminder is positive role model for children. They learn to share, take turns and consider the feelings of others. The childminder has adopted the local school rules,

enabling children and their parents to become familiar with the behavioural expectations that help to create a happy environment for all.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to develop her professional knowledge and skills to help her achieve the very best outcomes for children.  The childminder does not fully encourage parents to share information about what their children do at home, to achieve even greater continuity in children's learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of all aspects of safeguarding, including child protection. She knows what action to take to report concerns about the welfare of a child. Children learn about safe behaviours and risks are managed very effectively. The childminder keeps up to date with required training, such as paediatric first aid. She carefully monitors children's achievements, shares summaries of progress with parents each term and effectively addresses any gaps in learning. This helps to ensure that any developmental concerns are quickly identified and addressed.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder uses her knowledge of each child to help her plan activities and experiences to encourage their interest and development. For example, she models language clearly and builds on children's single words to extend their language. The childminder asks questions to help children to think and use their knowledge. Her linguistic skills enable her to communicate with children in their home language. For example, she reads stories and sings lullabies to children in Russian. She has a very good understanding of how to help children develop their bilingual language skills. The childminder encourages children to make choices in their play and joins in with them in planned activities.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder understands the importance of supporting children's emotional well-being. She takes good care to help children settle in her care. For example, she follows their familiar routines and ensures children have a photograph of their parents. This helps children to feel safe and secure. All children from an early age are encouraged to look after the resources, and to be kind and respectful to each other. Behaviour is good. In partnership with parents and professionals, the childminder helps to prepare children for school. For example, they talk about and visit school. Children are encouraged to develop their self-care skills and the ability to listen to others.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children enjoy opportunities to develop a good range of skills, which provide a firm base for future learning. They enjoy mark making with chalk and listen to stories. Children learn songs and use their imaginative skills with paint and dough. They are sociable and helpful to one another. Children learn about the natural world around them. For example, they grow and care for plants and talk about how they change.
