This provision is good
Children are happy, settled and increasingly independent. They show confidence to give new activities a try and start to manage their own personal-care needs for themselves. The childminder has a good understanding of children's stage of development and learning needs. She provides a wide range of activities that challenges children to solve problems and think their ideas through, helping them all to make good progress. The childminder provides very good support for children's language and mathematical development. She involves children in discussions during their activities and encourages them to count and calculate. She responds positively to the babbles of younger children, rewarding their early attempts at communication. Children are polite and well behaved. They understand about being kind and helping each other, and develop caring relationships with the childminder and their friends. The childminder recognises the importance of professional development to help her

make continuous improvements in her provision for children and families.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Parents are not always provided with detailed information about the next steps in children's learning, to help them be more involved in supporting their learning at home. Although the childminder has attempted to forge links with other settings, she has not been successful in ensuring that there is a regular exchange of information between all those involved, to improve consistency in the support children receive for their learning.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at children's records and a sample of other documentation, including policies and procedures. The inspector took account of the provider's self-evaluation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder follows good procedures to ensure children in her care are always well supervised to help keep them safe. She frequently updates her knowledge of child protection procedures, for example, through training, so she knows how to identify and react to any safeguarding concerns. The childminder evaluates the quality of her practice to help her make improvements. Since her last inspection, she has increased opportunities for children to develop their creativity by taking them along to music groups and providing more opportunities for playing music and dancing at home. She monitors and tracks children's progress well, providing her with a good awareness of how she can extend children's learning further through their play and experiences.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children are keen to explore and confident to investigate. For example, they show surprise as the ice in the garden starts to melt in their fingers. They use a wide range of vocabulary to describe how the ice feels and looks and to try to explain what is happening. The childminder has a good understanding of how her interaction and engagement with children can help to extend their learning. For example, as children use the soft dough, she encourages them to count how many shapes they have made and add up how many there are in total, or how many there are if they take one away. This increases children's understanding of number value and order. Younger children are encouraged to reach out or stand to access toys and resources, supporting their mobility.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children settle well with the childminder and enjoy her involvement in their play. She encourages them to be independent, for example, hanging up their coats on their pegs and using their own labelled hand towel to dry their hands. The childminder provides a safe and secure environment for children to explore both indoors and outdoors. Detailed risk assessments are completed to help the childminder ensure any outings are as safe as possible. The childminder makes good use of records and documentation to make sure that she is fully aware of children's individual needs and home routines, so that these are respected at all times. She offers high levels of praise and encouragement, making children feel proud of their achievements and encouraging them to keep trying.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and are prepared well for the next stage in their learning such as school. They enjoy books and stories and know that information can be found in books to increase their understanding, such as when they use the books that explain how their bodies work. Children develop a good awareness of letter shapes and sounds, for example, as they identify their name on their towel and are confident in using language.
