Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the childminder's interaction with children throughout the inspection.  The inspector sampled the childminder's observation records, planning and assessment documents, and looked at the registration records.  The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's suitability to work with children and sampled some of her policies and procedures.  The inspector held conversations with the childminder and children.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder fully understands and implements all legal requirements. She knows the correct procedures to follow if she has any concerns about a child's safety or welfare. The childminder develops her skills well and gains various ideas to support children's learning, for example, through attending training. Partnerships with parents are strong. The childminder monitors children's progress effectively and regularly shares this with parents, who write positive comments.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows the children very well and carefully gains a clear picture of what children know and can do from the start. She skilfully uses this information to identify any gaps and plan activities tailored to children's individual learning needs. All children develop good communication and language skills. The childminder often comments on the things that she sees children do and regularly models language. She joins in children's role play, such as to enhance their vocabulary and social skills. For example, children enjoy looking after baby dolls or pretending to sell something to the childminder.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder provides an extremely safe learning environment. Children feel secure and inspired to learn. They gain an exceptional understanding of how to keep themselves safe and why they have to follow some rules. For example, the childminder explains the danger of toys left on the floor when tidying up. Children's behaviour is exemplary. The childminder is calm, caring and attentive to children's needs. Children settle extremely well and develop close bonds with the childminder and each other. They kindly share resources as they play and use excellent manners. Even the youngest children regularly say 'please' and 'thank you'. Children receive plenty of physical exercise and fresh air. They have excellent opportunities to learn about their local and wider community. For example, the childminder takes them on an exceptional variety of trips, such as to wildlife parks, attractions and places of interest. Parents are extremely happy about these opportunities.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children learn essential skills needed for school and future life. They actively manage various tasks independently. For instance, they tidy away toys and help to clean the table before mealtimes. Children follow instructions well and have good opportunities to develop their early writing and mathematical skills. For example, they find letters that are in their names and they enjoy counting and sorting toys. They match the number of objects to the representative number. Children develop a strong sense of achievement and concentrate well.
