This provision is good
Children make good progress in their learning and development. Staff provide good support and teaching to help all children to achieve. Staff use observation and assess children's development effectively. They plan activities that support ongoing learning. Children of all ages behave well. Staff teach children to be kind and considerate to one another's feelings. Good strategies are used to keep parents up to date with useful information. Parents receive regular feedback about their child's activities and progress. The provider implements robust recruitment processes and offers good ongoing training opportunities to the staff. For example staff learnt how to communicate with children in different ways; this has a positive impact on outcomes for children. The management and staff reflect on their performance and children's learning. For example, management use audit records and ongoing tracking systems to ensure they

are providing consistently good-quality care.

It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, staff miss opportunities to encourage and support children's ongoing independence skills in everyday tasks and activities. Occasionally, staff miss opportunities to encourage less-confident children to join in during large group activities to help them take a more active role.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspectors observed activities and children's involvement in the nursery play area and outside. The inspectors looked at children's records and documentation and discussed these with staff. The inspectors took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day of the inspection. The inspectors sampled documents used to support practices, including children's development records, child records, staff suitability checks, safeguarding children procedures and self-evaluation. The inspectors completed a joint observation of a planned activity with the manager.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The nursery is well managed. The manager has a good awareness of the strengths of the provision and well-targeted plans for improvement. Documentation is well-maintained for the safe management of the nursery. Staff have regular supervision and appraisals to check their ongoing suitability and receive good induction to ensure they understand their duties. Safeguarding is effective. Staff know about possible signs that a child may be at risk of harm and have a good understanding of their responsibility to safeguard children's welfare and report any concerns. Partnerships with other professionals are good; staff work well to support consistency of children's care, learning and education.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Staff plan well for the children's needs and incorporate their next steps of learning into activities purposefully. The manager regularly monitors and tracks children's progress. Prompt action is taken to narrow any identified gaps in children's learning. Staff provide a varied range of activities based on children's interests, ages and developmental stages. Children of all ages are well occupied and settle and play well with the activities on offer. For example, in the younger groups, children enjoy interactive stories, which they explore with puppets. Staff support children's creativity and encourage them to use their imagination well. For instance, older children excitedly go on a 'bear hunt' in the sensory garden, using the trees and natural materials as obstacles they recall from a story.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Staff provide a welcoming environment for the children and set the rooms up well for them to settle and play. Staff maintain the key-person approach well, ascertaining information from parents to help them understand any factors that may affect children's needs. Staff help children to learn about healthy lifestyles. For example, all children play outside each day and they learn the importance of washing their hands before and after meals. Staff help children to learn how to keep safe. For instance, they remind children of the rules for behaviour and teach them how to exit the nursery safely in an emergency.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children of all ages enjoy learning and develop skills that prepare them well for their next stage in learning. For example, young children quickly learn how to communicate and enjoy participating in singing songs, linking actions to words. Older children are competent communicators who ask questions and share their imaginative ideas confidently. For example, children are keen to suggest what might happen next in a story. All children learn about numbers, shapes and space well, for example as they explore with water and containers, build puzzles and discuss numbers with staff.
