This provision is good
The childminder has made significant improvements to her observations, assessments and planning processes. She implemented a way of working that tells her what she needs to know about children's development and how she can help them to make further progress. The childminder has successfully engaged new parents in sharing details about what their child knows and can do when she first starts to care for them. She is using this information from parents to help her plan for the next steps in children's learning. The childminder is evaluating her practice. She is identifying training needs and applying for courses to help her develop her knowledge and skills. She is aware of where she can develop her practice, in order to enhance children's learning opportunities. The childminder provides a good range of experiences to help children develop their skills through play. She focuses on the prime areas of learning to ensure children

acquire the essential skills they need to help them to become independent and capable.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Very young children do not always have a wealth of opportunities for outdoor learning to support their growing interest in the world around them. The childminder does not yet provide a wide range of experiences and resources to promote children's understanding of people, families and communities different to their own.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents from written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has developed the organisation of her day-to-day practice, in order to ensure children's safety and well-being. She has carefully reflected on her personal effectiveness and considered carefully how best to organise her time to meet children's care needs. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of child protection procedures. She is fully aware of the possible signs that might give cause for concern in children of all ages. She maintains a safe environment for children with regular checks on the home and equipment she uses. The childminder is working with other early years settings that children attend. This helps her to gain an all-round picture of children's development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder promotes children's learning through play and daily care routines well. She provides children with plenty of relevant activities that interest and stimulate them. The childminder offers the very youngest children good opportunities to explore their surroundings. She helps them to develop their physical skills as they crawl and roll trying to reach for toys nearby. Children delight in playing with toys that make sounds or lights shine. The childminder is introducing children to new words as she describes what they do as they play. She encourages their early babbling with lots of positive responses to the sounds they make. The childminder uses different expressions and tones to her voice, talking and singing as she interacts with the children. She makes frequent observations as children play, recording the details to help her track their progress over time. In addition, she is quickly sharing special moments in children's day with their parents, so they are

included and are able to share in experiences.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder quickly develops successful and secure relationships with children. She takes time for settling-in visits to allow her to see the child with their parents feeling confident and at home. Her warm and friendly manner invites children to feel comfortable in her care. She makes effective use of the daily routine tasks, such as nappy changing and meals, to support children's further learning. The childminder talks to children as she carries out the care tasks, providing them with a friendly face and voice. She quickly learns to recognise very young children's needs for food, drink and sleep. She gathers useful information from parents about children's routines and uses this as the basis for planning her day. The childminder offers children daily time outdoors in the fresh air as she takes them for walks.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children's starting points are clearly established when they first begin attending. They build on what they know and can do. Children develop their communication skills and work on body control. They meet other children at groups where they learn to get along with others. Children are prepared for the next stage in their learning, such as school.
