new things. Books and mark-making materials are readily available in each area to promote children's literacy skills.  The childminder's extremely positive interactions with children support their language skills exceptionally well. Children learn new words at a fast rate and soon become confident communicators.  The childminder expertly notes the progress made by all children within her setting. She accurately identifies what children need to learn next and takes action to help them make rapid progress.  Children are extremely well supported to make healthy choices and follow excellent hygiene practices. Activities, such as music and movement sessions, help teach children that exercise keeps them healthy and that it can be great fun.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder meticulously follows her policies and procedures to ensure she keeps children safe at all times. She has an in depth, current knowledge of child protection procedures and knows what to do should she have concerns about a child's welfare. Risk assessments are extremely thorough and immediate steps are taken to minimise potential dangers. The childminder uses knowledge gained through her early years qualification and her considerable experience to provide excellent care for children. She keeps informed of new childcare initiatives through research, reading and accessing information on the internet. The childminder is aware of the importance of continuing with her professional development to maintain the high-quality provision.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder considers children's interests and what they need to learn next when planning activities. For example, she knows that some children are particularly interested in fire engines. She organises craft sessions for them to make their own toy vehicles and takes them on an exciting trip to the fire station. Excellent adaption of activities by the childminder enables all children to be included. This is demonstrated when she substitutes sand for an edible material, similar in consistency, for those children who explore with their mouth. The childminder recognises that children's learning and development are best promoted when she works together with parents. Parents have access to both documented and online systems which record the childminder's highly accurate assessments of children's development. She looks for new ways to encourage and enable parents to share information about what their child is doing at home. Strategies, such as

taking Marco the toy monkey home, work particularly well in building links between the home and the setting. Children thoroughly enjoy looking at his photograph journal and proudly recall the time he spent with them.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children's behaviour is managed exceptionally well. The childminder works hard to raise children's self-esteem. For example, she celebrates their achievements by placing stars on a Wow tree to recognise children's positive behaviour and what they have done well. Children proudly show their parents the stars and discuss why they got them. The childminder teaches children how to keep themselves safe and they are developing an excellent understanding about how to manage risks and challenges, relative to their age and abilities. For example, they use tools in the mud kitchen in the garden, learn to negotiate different surfaces and steps in the outdoor area and know about road safety.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children eagerly join in the wide range of highly interesting and well-planned activities. They are highly motivated, enthusiastic learners and develop excellent skills and abilities in all areas of learning. They are becoming increasingly independent in exploring their world and confident to do things for themselves. All children are becoming extremely well prepared for the next stage in their learning and eventual move on to school.
