This provision is good
Children are active and inquisitive learners, who enjoy their play. The childminder provides fun, high quality learning experiences that reflect children's interests and build on what they already know and can do. All children make good progress and are very well prepared for the next stage in their learning. The childminder's kind, gentle and nurturing approach helps children to develop very close bonds with her. She encourages children's good behaviour in a calm and sensitive manner. Her good interactions help children to recognise the effects their behaviour has on others and contribute towards them beginning to resolve their own conflicts. The childminder promotes children's communication and language development very well. She models effective listening, responding positively to emerging words and expanding children's vocabulary by introducing new words related to their play. The childminder establishes good partnerships with parents. She is dedicated to

working with them to promote continuity of care and learning. Parents comment very positively that they are kept well informed about their children's day and development. The childminder is committed to the continued development of her provision. She reflects on all that she offers, to identify where she can make improvements. She introduces changes to continually improve what she offers and to ensure that practice is tailored to meet the needs of those children who attend.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The monitoring of children's progress is not yet rigorous enough to provide the childminder with precise information to ensure any possible gaps in learning are identified even more rapidly. The childminder does not focus ongoing professional development opportunities precisely enough on raising the quality of her teaching to the highest level.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. She evaluated a focused activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, records of children's learning and development and a selection of policies and procedures. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other household members, and the childminder's qualifications. The inspector took account of the views of parents provided through written testimonials.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good awareness of how to keep children safe in her care. She has attended child protection training and knows the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The environment is safe and secure. The childminder has a good awareness of potential hazards and dangers for children of differing ages. She reflects on the activities and experiences that she provides and includes the views of the children to help her plan activities that they will enjoy. The childminder has a robust set of policies to underpin her provision which are implemented effectively. Parents are kept well informed about how the setting is run. This gives them reassurance that children are well cared for.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn through play and provides a stimulating and enabling environment for them. Children confidently choose what they would like to do and the childminder gives them options throughout the day. This helps children to feel valued and that their opinions matter. Planned activities and outings enthuse and motivate children to be curious about the world around them. They thoroughly enjoy role play and having visited the local bakery, have created their own bakery shop in the setting. The childminder joins in the children's play, follows their interest and makes suggestions to keep play going. For example, she adds kitchen utensils and baking equipment once they have made dough, so that children can make items to sell in their bakery shop. The childminder encourages children to explore different materials and textures. She asks well-timed questions to promote their thinking skills and

gives children time to work things out for themselves and develop their own ideas.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a homely, child-centred environment, where children develop high levels of independence and emotional security. She understands the care needs and backgrounds of the children attending, as she gathers detailed information from parents when their children first start. Children form strong bonds with the childminder. She is a good role model and treats each child as unique and with genuine regard. Children learn to be kind, considerate and respectful of others. They develop a sense of community as they attend local groups with the childminder. This gives them enhanced opportunities to develop their social skills as they meet new friends. The childminder teaches children safe practices, so they learn to identify risks for themselves. She supports children to develop healthy lifestyles. They learn the importance of eating healthy and nutritious food and they have lots of time in the fresh air.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress. They acquire the key skills, knowledge and attitudes that prepare them well for starting nursery or school. Children learn to be independent in their self-care, make choices and decisions and confidently express themselves. They recognise shapes and colours and grow in confidence when using numbers. They develop a keen interest in books and understand that print carries meaning.
