This provision is good
The childminder has addressed all actions and recommendations from her last inspection. She uses her observations of children to fully understand children's achievements and to plan successfully for their next steps in learning. She plans activities that help children to concentrate, listen and develop their thinking skills. The quality of teaching is good. The childminder consistently asks children a variety of meaningful questions, uses descriptive language and supports them to think and respond for themselves. The childminder regularly reviews her practice. She seeks the views of children and parents in the process in order to develop targeted action plans that help her to continually develop her service. Children are confident communicators. The childminder encourages children's communication and language skills well. Children enjoy a variety of activities that supports their good listening and speaking skills further.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder is caring, friendly, and patient. Children are happy and enjoy respectful, positive relationships with her. They respond well to regular praise and encouragement. Children are confident, inquisitive and behave well.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder promotes children's learning well, she does not regularly share information with parents about how they can enhance and develop children's emerging skills at home. The organisation and quantity of toys and resources can sometimes hinder children exploring their own interests even more.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection and made observations of children present. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector asked the childminder questions about her practice at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at children's records and checked evidence of the suitability and qualifications of the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents expressed in writing.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder attends child protection training. This helps her to keep her knowledge of reporting procedures and the different types of abuse and neglect up to date. She has completed paediatric first-aid training. This helps her to know how to deal appropriately with any accidents or injuries children may have. The childminder is well qualified and experienced and continues to develop and improve her knowledge and skills. She shares practice with other childminders and attends relevant courses that benefit children's learning. She works well with parents and understands the importance of strong partnership with other providers.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plays alongside children and introduces new words to help extend their developing vocabulary. She provides a narrative while the children play. The childminder looks for opportunities to extend learning for children. For example, as they play with fire trucks she provides a doll's house, which they then use to re-enact a rescue. This helps build on and extends their emerging speaking and imaginative skills. The childminder skilfully incorporates mathematical concepts during children's play. For example, when they use large blocks, the childminder encourages them to consider whether the blocks are bigger or smaller than themselves. They develop their mathematical understanding and concept of position, size and distance. Children complete jigsaws skilfully as they pause to consider where each piece fits, completing several jigsaws in a short space of time. Children are developing a keen understanding of the world. For example, they learn

about a range of festivals and celebrations. The childminder observes children at play and assesses their progress. She uses this information to plan activities and build upon their abilities and current knowledge.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children demonstrate they feel safe in the setting. The warm and caring interaction between the childminder and children builds their sense of security and confidence. Their personal development is promoted extremely well. Toddlers confidently communicate their preferences in a variety of ways. They are learning new words rapidly and begin to use them to build sentences. The childminder enthusiastically responds to children's choices. Children learn to recognise the importance of sharing. Young children develop good self- help skills as they feed themselves or express to the childminder when they are hungry or tired.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children show they are active learners. They are excited and enthusiastic as they take part in interesting activities, such as playing in the home corner. They make 'tea and cakes' which they share with adults in the room or make observations using binoculars. The childminder makes good use of regular outings in the local area to help them to understand and investigate the natural environment in which they live. For example, they visit the zoo or local parks. Children are happy and enjoy their time at the setting. Children are very well prepared for school and their future learning.
