This provision is good
Children benefit from good quality teaching. There is a strong focus on supporting language, communication and social skills, helping children to achieve and participate. Children make good progress in these key areas. The childminder has positive relationships with parents and other settings that children attend. She shares information about children's interests, experiences and progress, so that there is a consistent approach to their learning and development. Children share very warm supportive relationships with the childminder. They are emotionally secure and demonstrate that they are happy and settled. The childminder is a positive role model. She offers encouragement to support children's self-confidence and responds sensitively to their individual needs. Children's safety is given high priority. Effective measures are in place to identify and minimise risks within the home and on outings. This helps to ensure children are able

to play and learn in a safe and secure environment.

It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder does not effectively promote children's thinking and reasoning skills. Other than attending mandatory training, such as first aid and safeguarding, the childminder has not used a targeted programme of professional development to further enhance the quality of teaching and learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of the childminder and any adults in the home. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of the signs and symptoms of abuse. She knows who to contact in the event of any concerns about a child that she is caring for. The childminder evaluates her practice regularly to ensure improvements are quickly identified and addressed. Overall, the childminder has a clear knowledge of the current gaps in her practice and strives to improve. The childminder makes continuous and accurate assessments of children's development. She reviews children's progress through observations, identifies their next steps and closes gaps in their learning efficiently.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Parents are encouraged to share information about what children can already do when they first start. This initial assessment of children's likes, preferences and abilities helps the childminder to support their learning immediately. Overall, the qualified childminder provides a broad range of activities that children enjoy. She is skilful at following children's interests as these emerge through play. For example, children select books and are encouraged to turn the pages and discuss the pictures and storyline. This helps to develop their communication, physical and literacy skills. Painting activities are thoughtfully prepared and children enjoy using their senses exploring cut up vegetables and making marks on paper with them. The childminder talks to children as they play. She extends their learning by introducing new vocabulary into the conversation.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment and ensures that toys and resources are easily accessible. As a result, children confidently explore and engage in activities. The childminder helps children to learn how to keep themselves and others safe. She encourages them to tidy away toys before selecting further activities so that they have a safe place to play. This helps to support children's sense of responsibility and cooperation. The childminder is a good role model, helping children learn to be kind to others, share and take turns. Children enjoy the nutritious snacks and meals that the childminder provides for them. She gently encourages children who are more reluctant to try a variety of tastes and textures, to try small amounts, praising them when they eat. Children have lots of opportunities to develop their physical skills. They have regular access to the garden and enjoy frequent trips to local parks. Indoors they enjoy lining up

skittles and throwing balls to knock them down.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident, motivated and becoming independent. They are learning to listen and follow instructions very well. They enjoy their learning and have a positive attitude to new experiences. Children are working comfortably within the range of development typical for their age. They are well prepared for the next stage in their learning and eventually their move on to school.
