This provision is good
The childminder has made very positive progress since her last inspection. She has made significant improvements to the way in which she assesses children's development. This helps her to more easily identify where children need additional support. Parents are encouraged to become more involved with children's learning at home. The childminder is skilled at building strong, emotional bonds with children in her care. She ensures she is well informed of children's individual needs before they start and that settling-in procedures are tackled in a sensitive manner. Young children are soon happy and feel secure in her company. The standard of teaching is good. The childminder knows how to support and extend children's learning as they play and does so at every opportunity. Children concentrate well and are interested and active learners. Self-evaluation is used effectively to identify areas where the childminder can improve

her practice. Action plans are firmly focused on improving outcomes for children attending and take into account the opinions of others. Through play, children have good opportunities to learn about different people and cultures beyond their own community.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not fully considered more focused professional development to refine and enrich her knowledge and teaching skills even further.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. She looked at relevant documentation, such as self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of household members. The inspector read letters from parents and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has attended all essential training and has a good understanding of current child protection procedures for her local area. She is knowledgeable about the range of concerns she needs to report and ensures children are as safe as possible in her care. Younger children are well supervised as they move around independently and the childminder uses good strategies to help older children learn to protect themselves. The childminder has good contacts with other local providers and understands the benefits of strong partnership working. She has effective procedures in place in readiness for children's eventual move to pre-school or nursery. Parents offer positive feedback about their children's experiences and the progress they have made.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn through play. She provides activities that interest children and enhance their overall development successfully. For example, young children show a great fascination for toys, such as shape sorters. They show their good hand-to-eye coordination as they handle three dimensional shapes and confidently attempt to post them through similar holes in the resource. Young children benefit from the good teaching skills demonstrated by the childminder. She gives young children opportunities to try things for themselves while giving sensitive and timely guidance to enable children to succeed in their tasks. Young children's communication is promoted well during delightful conversations as they play contentedly with the childminder. She names the different shapes children handle thereby introducing mathematical terms at a very early age.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder's home is warm and welcoming for children. They have access to a wide range of good quality toys and have plenty of room to practise their newly acquired physical skills. Children's independence is encouraged during mealtimes when they make choices of healthy snacks and successfully feed themselves with healthy finger foods. Equally, young children are skilful in using spoons when the need arises. The childminder uses age-appropriate strategies to help children to behave well. Older children devise the house rules and, in doing so, know how to behave within the home.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are contented and benefit from the stimulating environment and activities provided by the childminder. Young children swiftly gain confidence in the new surroundings and, even in a short space of time, are able to progress well from their starting points. Young children are inquisitive and enjoy exploring and gaining the skills needed for the next stage in their learning.
