This provision is good
The childminder provides a nurturing and caring environment for children and they feel safe and secure. This helps to have a positive effect on their emotional well-being. The childminder engages well with children. For example, she talks to children and provides simple instructions and describes to them what they are doing. This helps young children to build on their communication skills. Children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder plans appropriate activities to help support young children's physical development. For example, she plans 'stretch and exercise' sessions for them. She offers them praise and cheers them on when they explore new skills, such as learning to stand independently. This helps build on children's confidence in their own abilities. Self-evaluation is effective. The childminder has successfully addressed the actions and recommendations identified in the previous inspection. For example, she ensures

appropriate fire safety equipment is in place and she has reorganised the furniture in the children's playroom to help provide more space for their free play.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide consistent opportunities for children to learn to make their own choices and decisions about their play experiences. The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to identify children's views and encourage them to continue exploring an activity before moving on to the next.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the children and their interactions with the childminder. The inspector viewed a sample of documents, including children's learning records. The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents and children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the signs and symptoms that indicate concern for children's welfare. She has an up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding guidelines. She has developed appropriate policies and procedures to help guide her practice and she implements these effectively to help ensure children's safety. The childminder makes good use of her knowledge and skills to help improve outcomes for children. For example, following training, she has improved procedures for managing children's behaviour consistently. She monitors individual children's progress effectively and plans appropriate support to address any gaps identified in their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides interesting opportunities for children to build on their understanding of the world. For example, they learn that objects still exist when they are hidden under a sheet. Children enjoy their learning, for example, they squeal with excitement when the objects are uncovered. The childminder sings to the children and she uses props and toys alongside this to help support their understanding. This helps build on their communication and language development. Children learn to use their imagination, for instance, they join in with the actions as they sing, which helps support their creativity. The childminder introduces children to celebrations from around the world, which helps them develop their understanding of the wider community. She helps children to learn to identify emergency vehicles, such as police cars, which helps build on their early understanding of those people who can help them in the community.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder acknowledges children's good behaviour and praises them, for instance, when they return toys to where they belong. This helps motivate children to make a positive contribution to daily routines. The childminder provides opportunities for children to build on their independence. For example, young children learn to use cutlery at mealtimes. She plans interesting activities to help children learn to make healthy choices. For example, she takes them on visits to the local library and children's centre to attend sessions conducted by nutritionists and dentists. She shares information with parents after the visit, which helps enable them to continue children's learning at home.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn about shapes and sizes, for example, they explore fitting toy cars into a play garage. This helps to build on their early mathematical skills. Children develop their early literacy skills well, for example, they learn to turn book pages and they point to illustrations in books. Children develop skills that help prepare them for future learning and their move to school.
