This provision is good
The childminder develops good partnerships with parents which help her provide continuity in children's care and learning. She is happy to adapt how she works to meet parents' and children's needs. The childminder shares regular information with parents about the children and uses her great experience to advise and support them. The childminder skilfully incorporates learning into children's play. Children enjoy the age-appropriate activities and the childminder is good at keeping them focused. The childminder is very affectionate and forms strong relationships with children. They cuddle her and take comfort from her presence such as when they are in the company of strangers. Children make good progress. They benefit from the childminder's effective support and interaction in their chosen play.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder sometimes follows children's interests too much rather than planning specifically to help them achieve the next steps in their learning to make even better progress. The childminder does not have a full understanding of how to seek support for children who may need additional support to catch up with others.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
improve the balance of child-led and planned activities to help children make even better progress develop an even clearer understanding of how to seek help if children need additional support with their development.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and children during the inspection. The inspector observed how the childminder engaged the children with activities. The inspector sampled documentation including training certificates, children's records and the childminder's self-evaluation. The inspector saw the areas of the childminder's home used by children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has effectively addressed the action and recommendations set at her last inspection. For example, she now uses daily reflection to evaluate how well she has helped children to learn; and keeps confidential, individual records for each child. The childminder completes all mandatory training such as for first aid and child protection. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has kept her knowledge up to date and knows the latest local contact details to report any concerns about a child. She keeps abreast of new aspects of safeguarding to protect children's welfare. The childminder uses her partnerships with a network of other providers to keep up to date with any changes and good practice ideas.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a wealth of experience in her role and provides children with a good range of experiences at home and on local outings. For example, she regularly visits the local library for children to listen to story sessions and to borrow books. The childminder supports children's early literacy skills well. For example, she has many books and spends lots of time reading with children. She is skilled at telling the stories, pointing things out in the pictures for children to follow the story. The childminder encourages children's good use of language. For example, she talks to them and encourages them to answer questions. The childminder tracks children's progress from the start to identify how she can contribute to their ongoing learning. She involves parents in this process through daily discussions.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder continues children's home routines which helps them to settle quickly. Children's behaviour shows they feel secure. For example, they play happily in the play room with access to a good many resources, suitable for their interests and abilities. Children behave well. The childminder is a good role model and sets clear boundaries. For example, children know they must sit at the table to eat or use scissors. The childminder continuously praises children and they become more confident. The childminder helps children learn about safety. For example, she teaches them that they must not walk about with scissors and that they must follow road safety rules.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop the skills they need for their future learning including at school. They are keen to play and try new things, they learn to focus and be inquisitive. For instance, at the inspection, children watched how they could make the needle go up and down on the kitchen scales when they pressed on the top. They found out what happened when they pressed buttons on toys and how they could make colourful patterns with crayons.
