children and young people since the most recent full inspection
This home was judged adequate at the last full inspection. At this interim inspection the home was 'not judged' .
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
This home has not provided care or accommodation for young people since October 2014. The registered provider is not planning to re-open the home imminently, but she may well do so in the future. If this did become the case, she would have to notify Ofsted three months before any young people are admitted to the home.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The registered provider is effective in keeping the property appropriately maintained. An employee of the organisation visits at least monthly and competently ensures that appropriate paperwork is updated, necessary checks are routinely done, and equipment and facilities are in satisfactory working order.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
During winter months the heating is kept going at a minimum level to protect the building against any damage caused by frost. The home does not currently have any records or files relating to young people.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Routine testing is done of the gas and electricity supply, as well as the fire alarm system. All are currently in good working order. The public liability insurance has recently been updated, and is displayed appropriately. On- going maintenance is regularly completed to ensure the fabric of the building remains safe and adequately cared for. For example, the garden fencing has recently been replaced, and work has been done to restore cracked paving slabs around the front door.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The bedroom and communal areas are kept clean and adequately decorated. The garden is also appropriately maintained. There are insufficient furnishings in the home to create a homely atmosphere for young people, but the registered provider plans to address this as and when she decides to start admitting young people again.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The registered provider ensures that an independent visitor checks the home on a monthly basis, in line with the Children’s Homes Regulations. The visitor sends a copy of each report to Ofsted, which ensures appropriate oversight of the functioning of the home. The visitor uses this report to inform the registered provider of any issues. These are then promptly dealt with. While the home remains closed, it does not have a registered manager nor a staff team in post. The home has not been operational since major changes were made to the Children’s Home’s Regulations in 2015, including the introduction of the quality standards. The registered provider successfully runs a number of other open children’s homes, and as such is well placed to successfully recruit a manager and staff, build a team, and update policies and procedures.

Information about this inspection
Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people living in the children's home. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the difference adults make to the lives of children and young people. They read case files, watched how professional staff work with children, young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care given to children and young people. Wherever possible, they talked to children, young people and their families. In addition the inspectors have tried to understand what the children's home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people who it is trying to help, protect and look after. This inspection focused on the effectiveness of the home and the progress and experiences of children and young people since the most recent full inspection.
