children and young people since the most recent full inspection

This home was judged good at the full inspection. At this interim inspection, Ofsted judge that it has sustained effectiveness .

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Since the last inspection, the registered manager has left the home. A new manager has recently started and will be undergoing registration. The home has also seen significant changes of staff. However, a core team of staff has remained constant to make sure there is stability for young people. As a result, young people continue to feel safe in the home. Young people do not go missing from the home and are generally making good progress in many areas of their development. There have been no complaints about the home or staff since the last inspection.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Young people continue to engage in education. This is because staff actively support and help them. Staff work well in partnership with teachers. They attend regular education meetings and stay in school with young people to offer a wrap- around service to them when this is required. Managers are proactive in challenging others to make sure that young people receive specialist health support and intervention they require. Staff also work well in partnership with parents and other professionals to provide diverse help and support for young people. For example, one young person regularly attends music therapy.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

There have been no new young people admitted into the home since the last inspection. Staff support young people well in their transition from the home. For example, staff supported one young person to have regular and increased contact with his family that helped to facilitate his early return home.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Staff are sensitive to young people’s needs. They have helped young people manage the changes in staff and management well. As a result, young people are able to develop respectful and trusting relationships with new staff starting work in the home. Staff promote positive behaviour. Staff do not restrain young people and rarely sanction them over misdemeanours. This results in significant improvements to young people’s social and emotional well-being.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

The home environment continues to be child centred, warm and comfortable. At the time of the inspection, the home looked festive and decorated ready for Christmas. Young people’s bedrooms are spacious and reflect young people’s personalities. However, staff do not always make sure they are a clean and pleasant environment for young people to return to after school.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

The manager is developing systems for monitoring the activities of the home to support the continuous improvement in the quality of care to young people. He has also developed a structure to ensure the regular supervision of staff. Monthly visits by an independent visitor to the home is taking place to support the managerial oversight of the home. However, these reports are not regularly sent into Ofsted as required in regulation.

p.3

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Young people’s case records and care plans are not all up-to-date and do not fully support effective care planning. For example, one young person who is over the age of 16 does not have a plan to support her transition to adulthood. Minutes of a looked-after meeting for another young person is not available to staff. Consequently, the staff are not able to have a full understanding of young people’s care plans in order to meet their needs.

p.6

Information about this inspection

Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people living in the children's home. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the difference adults make to the lives of children and young people. They read case files, watched how professional staff work with children, young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care given to children and young people. Wherever possible, they talked to children, young people and their families. In addition the inspectors have tried to understand what the children's home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people who it is trying to help, protect and look after. This inspection focused on the effectiveness of the home and the progress and experiences of children and young people since the most recent full inspection.
